BTW, my ex wife has paid me about $300 total for the 15 years that I had my son before he was an adult.

She was ordered to pay but never did. Nobody ever went after her and I left it alone.

You're carrying the ultimate "get out of jail free" card.

If she ever acts out all you have to do is threaten to go after back child support and she'll straighten right up.

That's the thing I don't get. Back child support? If the kid has reached the age of 18 or more, why would the parent still need money that is supposed to be for the raising and well being of the child? If they're going for it after the kid is out of the house, that money is nothing but a car/house payment for them.

I was assuming the kid was still under 18.

That said, I think a court may still enforce the payment of back child support even if the child is an adult. If you were ordered by a court to pay a certain amount and never paid that amount, from my understanding that is considered a debt to the custodial parent that must be paid.

Because it's making up for the payments a dead beat dad wasn't making which probably made life difficult when the kid was a minor. I have no problem with it.

But someone had to come up with the money in the past to make up for what a parent didn't pay. It is s d debt that has not been paid.
 
I am surprised that the courts didn't go after her automatically. The payments were supposed to go through the courthouse and then to me.
 
Back in the day her payments were something around $150 per month if I remember correctly.

It's not like they will throw her in jail. She is doing a 40 year term right now.

Courts do not police these type orders. It is up to the party who has been harmed to inform the court that their orders have been breached.

They were supposed to. My uncle had a rough patch and didnt pay child support for a couple of years in Texas and the courts got him set up with a new plan to pay off the debt or risk going back in front of the judge. I assume his ex was telling the court all about his lack of payment so that probably expedited the process, but they still should have set your ex straight.

Conversely, my MIL divorced her husband 3 years ago and since he was working under the table, he showed no income to the court. The judge told my MIL "you can't get water from a rock" and awarded her nothing but a $5k lien on the house for when he sold it.
 
Does anyone know of any companies doing "Buy 2 Get 2 Free" or "Buy 3 Get 1 Free" deals on tires right now?
