He's supposed to be though.

If the other elite DT's all had 2 sacks and 7 QB hits, sure, but statistically he's identical to everyone except Williams (who has a McVay-level genius coaching his defense), and he's been our best front 7 player. I'm assuming that as the defense starts to hopefully gel you'll see more production, he's already flashed more than anybody else.

TE Ferguson having a tough night FG dropping balls. That’s three that have hit his hands.

Did you see that play he blew up in the backfield yesterday late in the 4th? It's more than just QB pressures.

Sure, he's also on a fully formed defense that has been in the same system for years with much more surrounding talent, much like Williams.

I'm not saying Quinnen has been exactly what I expect him to be over these two games, but it's been two games on a defense that's clearly out of sorts and statistically he's basically right there with all the elite DT's.

My point is that this "he's terrible, a complete dud" talk is nonsense.

I'm with Simp. Quinnen is the least of our problems.

Wait, does he mean McVay challenged the spot? How do you challenge the measurement, virtual or not?

And then Ochoa doubles down when asked about it. This is dumb. Of course you should be allowed to challenge the spot.

This is when he came off the field and was holding his wrist. He was back on the field like 4 plays later, so I'm not worried about it, but it may have affected his play the reminder of the game.

Macro view of things, we're in good shape if we can split these next two and the defense can take a few steps forward.

I had us losing to the Giants and beating the Skins, then splitting the Ravens/Houston. I had us beating Baltimore and losing to Houston, thinking Baltimore would struggle a bit with a new staff while Houston's defense would set a very high floor, although now I think it's more likely we beat Houston who has struggled a good bit.

Split these two, we're 2-2, and then there's a nice long stretch of mostly average at best opponents with Tampa, Green Bay, Philly, Arizona, Indianapolis, SF, Tennessee and then Philadelphia again. Obviously SF isn't average, and Philly may or may not be depending on the day, but that's a 8 game stretch where we could easily go 6-2, no worse than 5-3 if this is a decent team whatsoever.

Obviously if we're 8-4 we'd be in very nice shape and certain to finish no worse than 10-7, with 11-6 probably more likely. Even at 7-5 we'd still be in good shape to get to 10-7, we'd probably just have to win the final 3 (vs. Jax, vs. NYG, at Washington) unless we can somehow steal one on the road vs. Seattle or the Rams.

Split these two, we're 2-2,

This is sort of where I am at. I think it's going to take 4 weeks for this defense to really start to gel. To me it's a matter of just surviving the start even if it's winning ugly. My hope is that after that this defense will actually start to take shape and we can go on a bit of a run.
