Never expected to talk about tennis in this thread, but on US tennis... I played competitively as a kid, and it's amazing how popular tennis used to be in this country compared to today where it's basically a niche sport. The population of the country has grown tremendously since the 80s, but we have fewer top players than ever before. To me, it's ridiculous that these little European countries are so far ahead of us when we have 380 million or whatever people.

All this to say, I don't see how the USTA is considered anything but a massive failure. I really don't keep up with tennis anymore, so I don't know what exactly the hell they've been doing, but IMO it's a disgrace and I wonder if they ever get any heat for it.

I think this is probably how it plays out. I am just hoping beyond hope the defense looks even half decent. At least that would give us hope for the rest of the season. If they look again like they did last week, what homerism I have will quickly diappear.

Yep, definitely trying to switch the vibe a bit with the tennis talk.

But yea American tennis is a joke, we're only dominant (mostly) with the women because other countries don't invest shit in female sports. The fact that a country like Italy can make a concerted effort in the last 15-20 years to build up its tennis infrastructure and now far outpaces what we have is hilarious.

And it's not just Sinner, they got a rando like Cobolli making the French final and young guys like Darderi coming up who are on par with our younger guys outside of Shelton, and all with like 1/5th the population.

I do think a big part of it is that we had so many elite American stars for decades from McEnroe to Conners to Sampras and Agassi, and now that it's been basically 20 years without any truly elite men people have kind of tuned out.

Get used to it. I was up at 5:15, but waited until after 6:45. I'm not going to wait any later than that. So, if someone wants to start it, they better be up and at 'em before then.

I don't put much weight in superstitions outside of funsies on this board, but If you feel that strongly about your superstition you will set an alarm and make sure it doesn't happen. You are one hour ahead of me so that's 7:45 your time. Not unreasonable.

Your spazzy way of dealing with time is what is unreasonable, along with your face. Look back at them over the years, most of the chatter thread threads were started in between the hours of 9-10, regardless of time zone.
 
Oh, and btw, I won't be chattering much through the early games because my mom and dad are coming over. And, I'm going to choose my parents over you hoodlums every day.
