2026 Training Camp Thread...

Nate is saying on one of the podcasts that practice is okay, but the Rams are a lot more "up" and intense than we are. Says they're putting our backs on the ground, and we haven't put any of theirs down.

Adding more...

Our offense hasn't looked great but isn't going to worry about them.

Defense is doing fine, biggest thing is the LOS isn't getting pushed back.

EZE has made a couple of plays and Nate says he may have been wrong about him -- likes that he brings anger.

Downs made a couple of great plays in the backfield on Rams running plays.

Guyton is hanging in there fine. Nate says he just needs to be steady and compete play after play. Has to beat the "mental devil."

Hyphen TE doing well.

Our man Camden Brown has been dominating -- dominating -- on the second and third team. Now it is not the starters, but still.

When you have a TE who is a great RAC guy, or athletic those plays can actually be great. But we don't have one of those. We haven't had one of those. So until we have one of those, they are just dumb plays.

Exactly.

We've been running those plays since the Garrett days despite the fact that not once in this entire time have we ever had an athletic TE who was great after the catch.

Why are we so hellbent on trying to force those plays to work?

The DL coach, the guy from Georgia, gave an interview yesterday and even reading between the lines I thought it sounded positive. This is a totally new defense for Lawrence, but he's a sponge, is attentive and learns well, and the first step and athletic ability is there. Didn't sound like coach BS-speak to me.

And FWIW, I will still die on the hill that Anthony Spencer was a pretty darn good player for #26 or whatever overall as a strongside edge. You can't expect a LT-Garrett-Micah-Ware talent down there.

Eh. He was acceptable, but I wouldn’t say “pretty darn good.” If you look at edge rushers in the 20s you can do way better. Spencer had an 8 year career and had fewer than 4 sacks in half of those 8 years. His “good” years were 6, 5, 6, and 11.

Too short and not good enough peak IMO.

WOODLAND HILLS, CALIF.

On Tuesday morning, the Dallas Cowboystraveled an hour south of their summer home in Oxnard to Woodland Hills for a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams.

The Star-Telegram was on-hand to observe every play between the Rams high-octane offense and the Cowboys new-look defense. Here is the play-by-play log of the two sides going at it for roughly 90 minutes:

First-team reps

  • Outsize zone handoff to the right stopped by DeMarvion Overshown for a two-yard gain
  • Play action bootleg pass complete for a one-yard gain, tackled by P.J. Locke
  • Pass complete to Kyren Williams on a quick out route to the right for a seven-yard gain
  • Donovan Ezeiruaku sack
  • Inside zone run, Quinnen Williams and Donovan Ezeiruaku combine for the tackle at the line of scrimmage
  • Zone coverage look from secondary, quick curl route complete to Puka Nacua for 10-yard gain
  • Play action deep ball to Puka Nacua, knocked away by Shavon Revel Jr. Good coverage against an elite receiver
  • Davante Adams bubble route to the left complete, stopped by Jalen Thompson after a six-yard gain
