Soccer Thread

We have a pretty nice group, there aren't any complete walkovers but we're also at least as good and probably better than the other 3 teams. They should be able to win the group without too much drama.

I don't know about that.

I think they're gonna have their hands full tomorrow with Paraguay and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they didn't even make it out of the group.

I watched a good chunk of the Mexico vs South Africa match this afternoon.

Are soccer officials usually that loose with the red card?

Given the severity of receiving one, you'd think they'd only issue them for the most egregious offenses. Two of the three that were issued felt unintentional, especially the one the Mexican player received.

This is how I feel.

Like I said, I barely follow the sport....but I know enough to know that the USMNT almost always fail to meet expectations.

Well this particular team just isn't very good and they have a manager I've never been a fan of who at no point since he was hired has had the US playing well.

There shouldn't be ANY expectations with this particular team.

Remember that the format is different now, there's almost no way they don't make it out of the group since you can advance just finishing 3rd depending on tiebreakers and such.

But I also think finishing 2nd is the absolute worst case scenario and would probably take one of the other three teams getting 7 points, and maybe even then still needing to get 1st on goal differential.

They really should win it, Paraguay will probably be the toughest match but even if they tie I think they have a solid chance of winning the group.

That right there is one of the finest meals known to mankind.
Absolutely, brother. I almost feel bad for the people that live in areas where it isn't offered at almost all (minus asian places) places you go to eat. And, the places where they can find it, it sucks. I have had chicken fried steak in places like Boston and DC and both times it sucked bad. You could have gotten a better CFS at KFC here.

That is true -- their odds are better now.

I just don't think this particular team is very good, but I guess we'll see.

Now let him try some chicken fried chicken.

This is the first meal I order when we try a new place. Regardless of the time of day.

If it sucks, I don't go back.

Chicken fried steak and eggs with hashbrowns is a grown man's breakfast. And, I'm here for it. When we go out for breakfast I get either that or a big ass omelet.

I swear we can derail any thread at any time. It's one of the unique things about our board. I love it.

Speaking of, who was that poster that one time that was always telling us to stay on topic? It was a n00b. Can't remember the username.

To get back to soccer, another team to keep an eye on that is kind of under the radar is Portugal.

Their two midfielders Vitinha and Joao Neves are basically the spine of the best club team in the world who won the last two Champions Leagues back to back, plus another one of their midfielders just broke a record in the English league for most assists in a season. They also have one of the best defenders in the world, also on the same club team as the two midfielders.

So they have 3/10 of the starting lineup for the best club team in the world.

I think they're a little overrated because I don't know where their goals are going to come from and it's doesn't help that Roberto Martinez is a spineless bitch who insists on not only starting an old Ronaldo who struggles every time against top competition, but letting him play a full 90 when he's just not cut out for that anymore.

He gave them next to nothing at the last World Cup and the last Euros and I expect him to give very little at this World Cup.

So while I do agree that they have a pretty impressive squad as a whole, I think the lack of goal scoring is what's going to do them in.

Yea I was more pointing out top young players that they have. They probably won't win it all but they should make a good run just based on how strong their defense/midfield is.
