2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

I guess now a LB who is always hurt and has about half a year of production will demand $40 million a year.
If he's at all in position to do that it will be because his production exploded and he stayed healthy, so more power to him.

But he shouldn't plan on it.

And so it has begun

I don’t want to keep him. He’s hurt way too much. I have serious doubts he can make it a whole season even in a contract year.
This kid is electric. It's unfortunate he's been hurt, but I can't wait to watch him this season.

In limited time in 2024 the guy became the mainstay of our defense-- 90 combined tackles (56 solo), 5 sacks, 4 passes defended, one forced fumble, and one interception in 13 games.

That was with a below average DL in front of him, Bland, Diggs, and DLaw out with injuries, and a Parsons himself returning from injury as the only other playmaker on the team.

Literally everything has changed for the better around him since then except for Gary taking over for Parsons.

This is his last opportunity to show everyone he's worth a long term deal, and it coincides with a major spike in talent around him and a new DC needing to establish himself as a rising HC candidate.

The table's set for Overshown, and I for one can't wait to see him get it done.

Do or do not with me. He can wear all the Cowboy boots he wants, but until he can stay healthy, he is a cheerleader who had some exciting flashes.

If you exclude Clark and Williams, who were only added as an extension of the unexpected Parsons trade, there are only 4 guys expected to play on defense this year who were in the team's plans this time last year.

We can quibble over this player or that player we'd have rather added or whatever, but it was a major personnel overhaul plus an entirely new defensive staff. It's exactly what we asked for.

Hopefully it's enough to get to a 15-20 ranked defense and we might actually have something here.

I don't mind keeping him on the right contract but I'd be very hesitant to make him the centerpiece of the LB corps. To me he should be a bonus until he proves he can be consistently healthy year after year.

If Parker (and Downs) can make Barham's life easier by giving him simple reads where he can just flow downhill I think we could see some similar flashes out of him as we did with Overshown. He has similar explosiveness when attacking downhill.

The tough question, but one I would happily face, is what if he finally has a healthy year this year. Do you pay him or pass because of the injury history.

He won’t, but if he did, he would really need to knock it out of the park this year

Well yeah he needs to stay healthy, as does everyone in the league.

It was a serious fluke knee injury in each case, and that last one was all the CL's in his right knee, so you know it would be a while before he's be all the way back.

He was injured in December 2024 and nearly at full snap counts by the end of 2025, and we are now approaching a year and a half of recovery.

Joey Galloway injured both his knees, once in college and once with us. Frank Gore, Rashad Penny, Jamaal Charles, Nick Bosa, Cooper Kupp, Saquon--it's happened to a lot of players that had productive careers, and it didn't mean those players were 'injury prone'.

I'm expecting a full normal year from Overshown, and everything I saw in 2025 showed the same sideline to sideline burst but clearly getting better throughout ending in a couple of 7 tackle games.

What was missing was the 5 sacks and coverage skills he had in 2024, and I expect our DC to resume those attempts now that 0 should be fully healthy. The coverage skills should be all the way back too.

Bottom line, I doubt he injures either knee again, and the guy doesn't know how to play half-speed.
