2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

It would feel pretty good, except we'd pretty much have to draft a WR high.

So it's something like for example:

Reese, Tyson, Cisse

Vs

Delane, Pickens, Lawrence

Not sure I wouldn't just rather have the known dominant WR in that scenario plus two very good prospects.

Assuming Delane will be there is a big time assumption though.

Why couldn't it be the scenario I mentioned above? Or if the top two WRs are gone at 12, then look to trade down like we've already been doing. Grab one of the WRs later in the first. And still get a good CB at 92/112. Or whatever we get if we trade down from 12. I see no reason why we'd be forced into Cisse or Delane.

Whichever player they get isn't my point.

My point is we have a known quantity in Pickens and that's more valuable than people seem to give it credit for.

It's sounds great in theory to have 3 firsts including one in the top 5, but giving up Pickens is a pretty big sacrifice in order to get there. Because one of those picks is going to have to be used to replace Pickens in order for your offense to not take a huge step back without Pickens.

So you're left with something like 4 (Ex, Bailey) and 35 (Hood) vs 12 (Ex Delane) and 20 (Lawrence).

Plus, Pickens vs whatever WR you take, who you're hoping is somewhere close to as good as Pickens someday.

I don't hate it, but I think the sure thing in how good Pickens is makes me prefer to keep him and focus on getting the best defenders with 12 & 20. I don't think the improvement in what we'd be able to get at 4, whether it's Reese or Bailey or Styles or Downs, is worth the risk of messing up that elite offense.

Without the trade we can still get two very good players. And we get to keep the known elite one in Pickens.

Oh I agree but I'm just using him as an example. I'm pretty sure someone will be there whether it's Downs or Delane or someone else.

And if not we might be able to trade down.

I'm just saying the caliber of player isn't such a huge upgrade that it's worth risking losing our current calling card which is an elite offense.

I think we also have to factor in some other things in regards to Pickens. Are we just planning on hoping he'll play out the year on the franchise tag? If so, then what? Franchise him again? Maybe sign him to an expensive long term contract then? Trade him after the draft? Trade him after franchising him again next year? And on top of that, the cost. If signed long term, he's expensive. If he's just franchised, he's not as expensive, but we have zero wiggle room with his money on the cap. Does he say fuck it and hold out for ten games to get his year of service? Is he a distraction all year long?

Maybe trading him for value is worth it, considering all the above questions and headaches. Yeah... We should have just worked out a contract and avoided all of this. But then again, we don't know what he was asking for.

That's where I'm at. If we're not going to commit to him long-term, trade him while you can still get a 1 for him. There's not guarantee we will be able to later on.

I would take option A.

We have pie to think about.

When does acting like this ever have a happy ending?
At best, say he blows up again.

They cannot with good faith to the family fortune sign him to a lucrative deal. He has only done it one year. What if he flakes out in year two the deal, etc.

Believe it or not, I think they have been watching how the 2 big money WRs in Cincy have been compounding things for them.

We did have the #1 offense in 2023 -- and IMO better than this past year's -- with a pretty used up Cooks as our #2...

Lol it always has to be a circus with these guys. Bill Clinton stumbling in. We’re bad at negotiating so we won’t talk to Pickens anymore about a deal because he was mean to us. If you’re going to go that route, shut the fuck up and trade him.

If any of us were running this team we would be accidentally more successful than these inept fools.

It’s like they act normal for a little bit and draw you in, and them bam… more stupidity.
I believe there are numerous guys in this forum who could put a better team together than the Jones retards. And that is not being over the top….30 years of futility is a record just about anyone could improve upon.

elite offense

"Elite Offense".

Both Jeremiah and McShay have Downs falling to us at 12 in their final mocks.

I didn't realize one of our coaches was at UCF last year, so that explains the interest in Lawrence.
Downs is the guy I want but it’s hard to believe he makes it to 12. I know there’s precedent for safeties falling, but this draft composition is kinda different.

I definitely can foresee Downs there at 12 (I kind of think it will happen). If history is any indication I feel like Downs is more likely to be there than Delane.
