It's tough. They reach a certain age and you either keep trying to fix or fill them. Or you just replace and not worry about it for awhile hopefully.

And they don’t last near as long as they used to.

How olds the unit? I actually replaced both my HVAC over the course of the last year. Costs about 12,000 each. But one is a 5 ton and one is a 4 1/2 ton.
2010. It’s just the upstairs unit not the downstairs. To replace the unit would be $11,000 though. I kinda trust my guy, for example the motor burned out on it last year and many HVAC guys were telling me the whole thing had to be replaced, or $8000 to fix it, but he came over and took a look, and was like, yeah, I have this piece lying around my storage yard, I’ll brb. And he went and got it and put it in and didn’t even charge me a dime for any of it.

So I believe him when he says that’s the cost. And he says the unit has years of life, in theory, even at 16 years old.

But damn this shit is expensive. $4700 for a fricking coil.

Yeah, it's good to have a guy you trust in HVAC because most you don't know will usually try and just replace even for easy fixes.
