2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

On a separate but related note, I want to hear who people have in mind if the top 6 defensive guys are gone and we can't move down, which is a very realistic scenario with how FA and trades have gone.

Let's say the top 11 are Mendoza, Love, Tate, Mauigoa, Freeling plus the top 6 defensive prospects.

Who are the top possibilities in that scenario?

I think Guyton's main problem is staying healthy. This is a make or break year for him.

Yes and no, it's year three. I still think regardless he is good enough to keep for all 4 years. Probably good enough to keep longer price permitting. It's just, is he a guy that you can reliably count on to be your starting tackle or do you need to look at other options that are more likely to play all 17 games.

It is and I think the team has already started signaling that with moving Tyler to LT for a few games and keeping Bass on a relatively expensive tender.

If Guyton doesn't establish himself as a reliable starter at just an average level I think he's done here for the most part.

Or him to us.

I wouldn't like it but if he's the best option left I might be ok with swallowing hard and crossing my fingers on him.

But the workout has to be good enough to put some of the injury questions to rest.

McCoy is still the big wild card. A great workout might push someone else down to us.

I'll be honest, if he kills it I'd feel a lot better about the mocks sending him to us as well. Just a massive unknown right now. But yeah it would be nice if he climbed into the top 11 which I think is possible with a great workout. His last season he played was that impressive.

He's definitely in the conversation at 20, the arms are just such an outlier though combined with average height/weight.

He would be in the conversation for me at 20 at least. I see a dude who is a shoe in fit at 3-4 OLBer and his level of physical, speed and energy would be a game changer on this defense in my book.

Speaking of a pass rusher that is fun to watch. The other guy I really enjoy watching is Malachi Lawrence. Not as much fun as Howell but pretty damn fun. And he brings the length/size component you're missing with Howell. Maybe just a little less energy.

Here's a thought.

Since there's a chance that at 12 there's no defender left that WOWs you... would you be open to maybe kind of punting the pick to next year?

Let's say someone offers a mid 2nd rounder this year and a first next year.

Yes? No?

That feels like a poor price. Maybe a high second? Knowing that a team with a high second has a high chance of sucking next year?

Like Raiders pick 33 and their first next year?

That's too far a drop, it'd have to be in the top 5ish of the 2nd for me.

Depending on who’s there, sure. Give us the second rounder which should still be a difference maker, and a second first at what as of now looks to be stronger at the top.
