I think Thompson is a safety who can line up in the slot.

Revel and Bland are your corners. They have made this pretty clear in my opinion. I think they are looking for a slot guy. But that could just as much be a safety as a corner.

I don't think $25 a year is bad for Oweh. Less than Phillips got and I think Oweh is at least as good.

And as others have said, let's add a starting LB and get rolling towards the draft.

Sure, Hendrickson would be fun, but Gary is at least as good as the rest of the edge class and I would've been perfectly comfortable with a haul of Oweh (Gary instead), Thompson and a starting LB.

It's better than 30 for Phillips but I think it's still too high. I thought they'd both go for around 20 or so, but that's FA for you.

I don't think either should be your best front 7 player and are better suited as a Robin to someone else's Batman. Quinnen is our Batman, and I guess Derrick Brown for the Panthers, the Skins obviously don't have one unless they get one at 7.

Hooker might actually be our 5th DB when all is said and done.

In base you could roll with Bland/Revel at CB, Thompson/Thieneman at safety, and then in nickel/dime you bring in Hooker with Thieneman and/or Thompson shifting closer to the slot areas.
 
Mafe getting 20/year and Paye getting 16/year are even worse than the deals that Oweh and Phillips got, but that's the edge rusher market this year I guess.

It makes the Gary trade look all the better because he's arguably the best player out of all of them and we got him on a team friendly deal with little or no guaranteed money.

Still having another corner will crowd the depth chart and make a first rounder less likely.
 
So will Thompson play that nickel role that CP has talked about? Jack of all trades. Cover the TE, cover the slot, rush the passer. The one Downs would excel at?

They probably don't know yet but I don't think it means someone like Downs would be out if he drops. Thompson is versatile enough to play in the slot/flat area or deep even as single-high.
 
Wow.... This is the best free agency day as a Cowboys fan in a long ass time.

If they can make a few more smart additions, we'll have a chance to be a really good football team next season.
