New Defensive Coordinator - Christian Parker

I don't need 55 fucking examples to explain that a defense is better when it can win with 4 rushing and playing 7 in coverage, that goes for anybody.

But Philly had a pretty elite defense by the end of last year despite not having anything close to an elite edge rusher, and they actually blitzed Dean in particular quite a bit.

So what is the lesson here?

Nothing in the PC was groundbreaking, I think most of us knew we'd be a 3-4 base but like every team you're often running 4 down linemen in nickel/dime.

The main thing that stood out was just kind of the passion and quickness of thought that came from Parker, similar to how I felt when Quinn would talk. You could tell that he's thought deeply about how he wants the defense to look and how he wants them to play, as opposed to Eberflus who basically just talked in meaningless platitudes from day 1. Early on I hoped he just wanted to keep everything under wraps but I think it was obvious that the guy just kind of didn't have a whole lot going on in his head and that he was sort of on autopilot.

The one tidbit that I found particularly interesting is when someone asked about the importance of "nickels", which presumably means slot CB, and he said that they're a combination of a CB/LB/S. That's something I've been kind of hypothesizing about given how and where DeJean would line up, and it's why I've been wondering if a safety like Thieneman or McNeil-Warren might make sense in the slot, even though they're safeties.

I like that he came out and said that you match coverage style to talent.

Gave me a little hope

The guy brought up Roman emperors and the Art of War when someone asked a random question about his college background. The guy is intelligent, you never know exactly how a coach will turn out when they're promoted but I'm not overly worried about him figuring out that some guys are better suited for X while others are better suited for Y, and then figuring out how to use them that way.

I truly believe that Eberflus was just checked out and that the game had passed him by, the shit we saw last year is irrelevant moving forward.
