Defensive Coordinator Candidates

Does Schotty really want to hire the next guy? If it doesn't work out, he'll get blamed.

He has a hard enough time dressing himself in the morning. I doubt he could handle more pressure.

I look at safety and LBer as something that absolutely needs addressed in free agency. Those are the cheapest positions on defense to fill in free agency. I'd like to load up on some mid to lower tier corners as well. But elite corners and pass rushers in free agency cost a fortune and are hard to find in free agency. So I'm not going to hold my breath that we sign a shutdown corner or elite pass rusher. It's just highly unlikely. On the other hand I think you can find good starting LBers and safeties at pretty reasonable prices. And then maybe see if you can find a Jordan Lewis level corner at least. Protects yourself to be able to draft freely.

If we could get a couple mid tier corners like Jordan Lewis we would be set.

Trade down from 12 and get TJ Parker and a second or third.

Then trade down from the other first for a second and a future first.

Then you have 1, 2, 2, 4 this year and you’ve recouped the extra first next year.

Sounds nice. Now find a trading partner willing to do it.

Why are you so in love with TJ Parker? His 2025 performance was poop. 2024 was great. Now part of me thinks, Clemson was a fucking hot mess this year so maybe there is more to the down year than he just isn't good. But I also recognize that they sucked despite having a couple of Dlineman that should have rivaled any college football team. And they sucked as a team. And frankly didn't create that much pressure.

He looks like the most classic long lean speed around the edge type of the first rounders.

Bailey is that guy but won't fall to 12, after him I think Howell is the best speed rusher but is probably only a fit in something resembling a 3-4.

I like Parker well enough but I think he's in the mix with guys like Zion Young, he doesn't stand out above them in my opinion.

Yeah I don't think Parker is that speedy or bendy. Certainly doesn't look elite at either. He'll Texas Tech has two guys that are more explosive pass rushers. Unfortunately Height is older.

I'd have no problem basically transferring Atlanta's defensive staff over here, although I suspect that if Shula gets a HC job Morris will go back to the Rams.

Haven't seen any HC interviews reported for Shula though so maybe he'll slip through the cracks this time.

It may not be exactly relevant but this is an interview sound bite from Parcells that I had never seen before.

It is an interesting thing but a psychological truth about how people will protect themselves first.

Maybe not scheme, but there's certainly something that causes some coaches to consistently succeed and others not.

As an example, the 2002 season under Campo vs the 2003 playoff team under Parcells. The players didn't change that much.

The difference between the 06 team and 07 is Romo. And I firmly believe that 07 team makes the super bowl if Parcells was still coaching.

I do think scheme matters more than Parcells was implying here, but I also don't think he's saying the coaching doesn't matter at all.

If Babe is posting this to try to absolve Eberflus I think he missed the point.
