We told the world that we will have a player temporarily replace an injured player? Yeah, I can see how nobody would have ever expected that to happen.

Watched one of the DC.com podcasts with Nate Newton and he said when Guyton got hurt he asked Will McClay about Richards playing LT and McClay didn't hesitate in saying no, it'll be Thomas. What if we found one late...

It'd be nice if he could be a Doug Free-level player. I have no clue if it'll happen or not but I think we'll have a pretty good idea based on the next month of TC/preseason.

The main thing with him is he has great length to go with really good size/bulk. Guyton weighs nearly as much as he does but he's much leaner, Thomas is built square plus he has the length to go with it.

The fact that we have legitimate forward-thinking coaching on the OL is another reason I'm optimistic about the development of a promising, but somewhat raw prospect.

Yea I thought he's a guy they'd probably keep as a backup at OG and RT, LT wasn't on my radar because I thought he was an RT in college, but once I saw him getting so many reps as an LT with the 2's I went back and realized it was LT that he played in college.

They've kept schlubs like Ball and Waletzko around for 4-5 years, I figured the least they could do is give Thomas 2-3.

He was sort of a forgotten guy. We drafted an OT. There is hope for Asim. We had just an insane glut of interior OLine options.

Nate Thomas was sort of forgotten. Which happens when you're a later round pick who gets stashed on IR your entire rookie year. But now I'm starting to go back to the draft mentally where I really liked the kid. You don't have to be the prettiest athlete to play LT. We just became accustomed to it because Tyron Smith was such a gifted athlete.

True, we've been lucky there for a long time. Maybe our next one isn't an elite pass blocker -- maybe he's just solid there and a people mover as a run blocker. I could live with that.

They say this guy has a professional attitude, so maybe he at least wouldn't be as streaky as Guyton. For all the talk about Guyton's fundamentals etc., it's his head that worries me. Lots of red flags there going back to college.

I mean Flozell Adams was a damn good LT. I don't think he was the quickest of foot. But damn he was huge and hard to get around.

Guyton also is hurt like all time. I have a feeling of career tease from him.

Barton would've likely been my pick if they hadn't traded down but ultimately the trade down netted Beebe who I think is roughly just as good as Barton, so in that way Guyton is sort of a free play.

I'm not ready to go that far but it certainly is concerning. Some very talented O-lineman come into the NFL and basically never get hurt. Others entire careers seem to be derailed by injuries. I do think that sometimes when you get a guy so tall and long and then put them in a position where they are required to be physical on every play, their bodies just aren't built to withstand it. I hope that's not the case for Guyton. I do believe the reports that his camp looked much improved. But none of it matters if he isn't on the field.

We dodged a bullet on this injury but I don't want it to be just holding my breath for the next one either.
