Unless we get the running game fixed we are going to be discussing this same stuff next year for sore. Run blocking. Play design. RB period. Playcalling. This is all coaching and GM issues. From scheme to player acquisition.

When you have 3 all pro linemen there should be no excuse for this at all.

the Oline might not be all that either.

I wonder if Henry has anything left if he gets cut?

30 years old....lots of carries.

I don't think it takes an uber talented O-line to create a great run game. It's about scheme and a mentality. Having a great RB helps too. Our running scheme blows. Our O-line has some individual talent but as a unit they blow when run blocking. I also think it's very predictable when we are or aren't running. Again, 90's of the time when Dak is under center, it's a run.

I don't think he does. As great as he was, I don't think he has it anymore.

Last season they were a good run blocking unit. We kept hearing how the right side was blowing people off the line. Pollard had open lanes. Now it's like pulling teeth after the switch from Philbin.

They were a pretty terrible running team in the last couple months last year.

This is exactly right. I hope McCarthy has the balls to part ways. Like you can't keep playing like that. And it's not like the changes created some awesome pass blocking. Our pass blocking was ok, but hardly great.

I seriously doubt JJ is going to be inclined to invest too many resources for this throwaway year with a lame duck coach.
That's the thing, he really doesn't need to... our DBs are fine, WRs too, DL is serviceable, with a new OL coach, the pieces are there to make it work. So you're really looking at LB and RB... a good RB can be gotten in the draft, that just leaves LB. Put the big money there and use the draft and some other value adds to shore up other areas.

Yes, this is an overlay simplistic take, but if you're going to stick with the guy, you can give some help w/o mortgaging the future.

Disagree about DL.....DTs are garbage. Only two decent ones are part time players. Hankins (old, fat) Osa (small)

I thought McCarthy shouldve been fired, but it's not that I hate that they kept him. In fact there are certain aspects I like about him. What bothers me is I know nothing is going to change. Do any of us really trust all the problems to get fixed? And say we do "fix" them next regular season, who really believes we're going to run thru the playoffs with the lazy cowards that compose this team from players to Jerry.

it's all so damn frustrating. Where is the accountability from anyone? All I hear are cliches from the team. I don't hear any anger. For fucks sake, do something different. It's insanity.

It isn't insanity. It is comfortability

I actually think it's mostly cheapness. If Mike's deal were up, no way he brings him back. But Jerry hates paying coaches not to coach almost as much as anything.

That and he loves that Dak had his best year under Mike. Probably doesn't want to make Dak learn another system, etc.

Thank God for Will McClay.

The sad thing is I think they drafted for specific positions. Basically trying to fill need. The NT to stop the run never panned out. The LBer they desperately needed blew out his knee. We took a TE in the second round that we didn't need because we thought we did and we got minimal. The physical DE who can supposedly play multiple positions, redshirted. The corner we absolutely had to have, never was active.

Our best rookie may have been Bass, an undrafted dude.

So yeah, let's hope this class bounces back in year two. I'm not writing it off yet but the start couldn't be worse.

Nah, we need more than a RB and LBs.

For example, where was our pass rush for most of the last 2 months? We need another competent pass rusher and they are hard to find. We also need a DT. Probably need a RT and maybe a swing tackle.

And by the way...are our DBs fine? Or are we counting on Diggs being the same after a major injury like we counted on Gallup and Steele? And is Gilmore back?

Is WR fine or do we have to replace Cooks and Gallup?

A LOT of questions.

Yeah, we have no choice but to hope some young guys develop. Dudes like Sam Williams and Fehoko need to step up or we are just screwed. All these picks Quinn has wanted need to become real players.

And as doubtful as it may be we need Mazi to become competent. Like we need to look at the offseason and say, we have to develop the shit out of these guys.

Bell needs to replace Kearse and we need to add a couple of LBers

I would trade Sam Williams at 12:01 am the first day possible. Perfect example of a guy someone might give something for.

Sick of the idiot players. Don't care about what they look like or the SPARQ score. Not like he produces much anyway.
