Pulling down statues is only the first step in silencing dissenting voices. Kind of a test the waters and see what will be accepted, if you will.

And don't kid yourself. It won't stop there.

And that's the problem. They will not stop until they have crossed a line and pissed everybody off. What they want is a reaction and soon they will get one.

Strongly disagree. There is nothing wrong with remembering your history. Nobody's history is perfect. Some is good, some is bad, some is awful. But the fact is, nothing that happened a hundred plus years ago has any bearing on the people alive today. Tearing down statues and trying to erase history will do nothing to change the fact that it happened. And if we would rather hide from it and pretend it didn't happen rather than learn from it, then there is not much to say.

I am not advocating for erasing history, I'm saying they should have never been erected using public funds and/or property in the first place but now that they have, I don't care if they're removed but would like to see them (maybe not all) placed in a museum because as you said, we need to remember our history both good and bad, I'm NEVER for attempting to erase any history of any kind and am a firm believer in the axiom that "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".

Given the volume of more pressing issues in this country, I'm not going to war over a god damned statue, especially one of a confederate soldier. Leave a historical marker there after its removed describing what was there, why it was removed, etc and move on down the fucking road

There's nothing wrong with feeling that way, and I respect your opinion on that.

The problem is that people tearing down the statues are making that decision for EVERYBODY and that's definitely wrong.

The other problem is that the people doing these things accuse you of being a hateful racist bigot if you disagree with them and that's extremely wrong. Not only extremely wrong but sowing discord and resentment.

Yep, I dont care. Fine and or jail the folks involved for any broken laws, move the statue to a museum (or melt it down) and move on down the road. I'm far more concerned about term limits, out of control spending by seemingly every gov (state and federal), infrastructure repair, printing of money, education, etc, etc.

It stops for me at WW2 memorials, holocaust museums, Viet nam war memorial...there's plenty of places more meaningful to learn about history and/or pay respect than a few statues and the name given to an arm of law enforcement decades ago.

In WW2, after cracking the enigma machine, the allies let ships continue to travel where German subs were sinking them despite knowing where they were with this new found intel. They did this because there was a bigger goal and they didn't want the Germans to realize they had cracked Enigma and considered the loss of these ships acceptable in light of the larger goal of winning the war.

Sometimes, there's bigger fish to fry and thats when and were you say no.

The bigger problem to me is we dont have leadership that thinks creatively, long-term and strategic but instead lives in the mud wrestling with their proverbial pig incessantly, never realizing the pig likes it and imho we all suffer for it

A real pivot would be to fuck people's minds and say it.
