Obviously, I work in transportation, and have some insight into the industry. I am here to tell you that the NYC TMA (transportation management association) is the most corrupt in the nation. They lobby for shit that has nothing at all to do with transportation. You can liken them to the Irish mob in Chicago in the 30s. They run that city from the top down. They are a bunch of fucking crooks. The epitome of why unions are bad.

The TMA are not cops. The Port Authority is. The Port Authority are also a public venture. The TMA is privately run, sorta. They are so deep in politics that they may as well be public, but technically they are not.

There are TMAs and TMOs. This one is a TMA. TMOs normally are funded mostly by grants, so they are subject the grant requirements, etc. TMAs are funded through contracts with municipalities/metros, and have much more flexibility because they are not beholden to grant restrictions.

Oh, and while I am geeking out, we need serious 501c3 reform. This is the tax status of non-profits and has been widely abused over the years. Most TMAs hold 501c3 status.

You didn’t. NY state has the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and New York City has the Transit Authority (TA)

When you say TMA, I think you’re referring to the type of group and I’m asking what’s the name of this group.

There are multiple TMAs in each region with an umbrella oversight TMA. See the post above yours. The Transit Authority in NYC is the umbrella. An example of a subsidiary TMA, look at Go DC Go. It's a TMA in Washington DC.

No, TMA is just what that kind of organization is called. There are tens of thousands of them around the country with all kinds of names. NCTCOG is a huge TMA in the D/FW area. Downtown Dallas and Downtown Ft Worth are both TMAs that operate under that umbrella.
