War is coming.
Wonder what that would look like...

And I wouldn't be surprised if a Biden administration used that to crack down on dissenters... As in, we have credible evidence that people were threatening violence! So we had no choice but to jail people.

You have to have full cooperation of law enforcement for that. I see it coming down to who the cops and the military side with, and I think that's a pretty easy question to answer.

:lol did I strike a nerve GK?

The person who tweeted a summary of Gates position was incomplete and possibly deliberately inflammatory to rile up those predisposed against this position and/or Gates

I found his position to be more nuanced. He didn't say he wanted "local businesses and services to remain closed". He reluctantly stated "Bars & restaurants in most of the country will be closed as we go into this wave" and waffled on the issue of school closings. I dont expect to get a complete and accurate picture of how Gates thinks everything should be handled in such a short interview but such is the nature of news and peoples short attention spans and this is all we get.

I find Gates to be an intelligent, thoughtful & well read individual who has put a ton of time and money into eradicating diseases like polio around the world so I think his views are likely to have merit that should be considered by all. (He also wants nuclear energy in this country which I currently agree with him on as well). I don't find him to be the typical political loon that should be dismissed and while I also dont think we should abandon all reason and logic and worship at the alter of all things Gates, he brings a lot to the table and shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. I recommend watching this show to get more insight into the man and his views:

Here's the full transcript of the part of the interview captured in the tweet above.

Tapper: People in California, right now under brand new stay at home orders, uh, as hospitals there risk being overwhelmed Um, there are a lot of governors, uh, who oppose bringing back these lock down orders and forcing businesses to close. What do you think? Do you think more states need to consider taking that kind of drastic action and the kind of drastic action we saw when the pandemic first began or can there be a more nuanced approach?

Gates: Well, certainly mask wearing uh, has essentially no down side, they’re not expensive. Bars & restaurants in most of the country will be closed as we go into this wave and I think sadly that is appropriate. Depending upon how severe it is, the decision about schools is much more complicated because they’re, you know the benefits are pretty high, the amount of transmission is not the same as in restaurants & bars. So, uh, you know, trade offs will have to be made but this, the next 4-6 months uh, really call on us, uh, to do our best because we can see that this will end and you don't want, you know, somebody you love to be the last to die of Corona virus.

Tapper: When do you think life will fully return what we though of as normal back in January, no masks, no social distancing, uh, no other protective measures necessary?

Gates: Certainly by the summer we’ll be way closer to normal than we are now but even through early 2022 unless we help other countries get rid of this disease and we get high vaccination rates in our country, the risk of reintroduction will be there and of course the global economy will be, uh, slowed down, which hurts America economically in a pretty dramatic way so well have, starting in the summer, about 9 months where a few things like big public gatherings, uh, will still be restricted but you know we can see now that somewhere between 12-18 months, we have a chance, if we manage it well, uh, to get back to normal.
I'd love to discuss legitimate issues with what he actually said and not the summary from whomever posted the tweet. We have to stop falling for headlines and misstated summaries by random people as its creating division where it doesnt need to exist. There's plenty of legit reasons to be divided, I'd like us all, regardless of party, to stop being swayed by misinformation or outright lies but perhaps that's a fools errand.

That's still an arbitrary stance, how about he say something about the BLM protests or Walmart or the airlines operating as normal??? Bottom line is this shit is killing small businesses and moving the profits to mega corporations and how dare he tell the small restaurant they have to close while McDonalds is free to do what they want

All for a virus with a 99.9999 chance of survival
