If he's talking about trading away our players for picks, I know exactly why: Because this brain trust, led by Jerry, always thinks/hopes they're this close to winning it all and they don't want to lose that one player that could make a difference.

They suck at evaluating and don't have longer-term plans, claims of process-dynasties notwithstanding.

Really what he is saying is exactly what I have been saying for a long time:

Laziest. Front. Office. Ever.

Wait, you mean there is a decent veteran being shopped around the league for relatively peanuts? Nope, did not consider him.

The big problem is the fact that we are constantly in a state of cap manipulation.

It is simply over Goof Son's head to be able to cook the books to get the cap room fast enough to quickly pull off a trade.

So he simply just doesn't think about it.

How about we package Scandrick and a 4th for Earl Thomas?

If the idea is for them to save cap space by dumping Thomas, why would they take on Scandrick's hit?

Thomas counts for $10.4. If they absorbed Scandrick, I assume they would take on Scandrick's $5.1.

So if the idea is to only save $5M and get rid of one of your better defenders, it is a maybe at best.

You very well may be right, but a restructure to of Scandrick's contract to lower that hit is always a possibility, too.

That would imply you wanted to win playoff games and Super Bowls.

Like Booze mentioned earlier, we're always struggling with the cap. I understand in this league its hard to build a winner with the cap and FA. But your perennial contenders don't find themselves nailed to a wall nearly as often as we do.
More wisdom to be learned if Jerry and co. would just pay attention and learn.
* Another tired worn out complaint about this organization*

We struggle with the cap because we constantly have dead money and also structure contracts poorly.

Just a few years ago, the Eagles were in a state of ruin and Chip Kelly was fired. Howie Roseman takes back over and they have dug themselves out of a hole in a couple years, mainly by smart language in their contracts.

We have a lot of blue chip talent compared with other teams. That’s objective fact. We just don’t know how to win with it.

I think the front office certainly thinks so (and operates in that manner). Is that really true though?

We have some legit players on the OL. Zeke is good. WRs? I wouldn't call that a great group. TE - I love Witten, but he isn't a game changer at this point. QB - Dak looked great his rookie year, but I'm not sure what he is at this point.

Defensively - Lawrence and Lee?

I think the talent on this team is a little overrated by the fan base and the front office.

Dez, Smith, Martin, Frederick, Collins, Elliott, Lee, Lawrence. I include Dan Bailey, though his injury is a bit concerning. Injuries and age have slowed Dez, but not nearly as much as QB changes. Sorry, that’s the truth.

A tad underwhelming when compared to Brown, Bell, Villanueva, DeCastro, Pouncey, Roethlisberger, and maybe Cameron Heyward— but that’s probably the leagues best.

I think our quantity of blue chippers matches up well with even the top teams. But one big problem is our QB is not among our blue chippers and that puts you behind the eight ball.

Of course that's not the entire problem, because Nick frigging Foles won a super bowl and Dak is probably better than him.

Which brings us to coaching, which is by far our biggest issue.

We're listing Dez as one of our blue chippers yet trying to say we need to cut him cause he's washed up in another thread. Interesting.

Point is, we've had the talent and haven't won anything. Of course if you keep the same players long enough, even the great ones will eventually decline.
