Russia Invades Ukraine

I don't know why people ignore or dismiss this. We totally went back on our promise to not advance NATO eastward after the wall fell. We blatantly lied about that and other things to the Russians. They have a history of being invaded and I don't totally blame them for being a little paranoid about it. If the CCP were setting up shop in northern Mexico we'd be pissed, and rightfully so.

And the standard Irv disclaimer, none of this means Putin is a good guy. He's a former KGB colonel so you know he's a thug. But that doesn't change what I said above.

They tried to do it in Cuba and we almost started a nuclear war over it. This whole thing is about security for them. Poland and Ukraine have served as invasion corridors (because they are largely plains and offer no natural barriers) for their enemies for a couple of centuries. And Putin is a bad guy. Both of these things can be true. But, of course, Irv (and the left) are going to frame it as Trump giving in to Putin.

There are 2 choices. We can negotiate a settlement or we can continue to funnel billions of dollars to Zelensky and continue to help them prosecute a war they have zero hope of winning without our direct involvement. We are not allied with them nor are they part of NATO. And yes, that sucks for them but had we not continued to expand eastward (Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia) none of this would be happening right now.

Because that's what the Left media narrative is. That's the only reason.

As to why the Left has such a special love for Ukraine, that's a more complicated question that probably goes back to the CIA engineering regime change there in 2014, why Hunter and Joe were getting rich there off fake jobs for gas companies, etc.
Maybe you've forgotten that Ukraine had pretty much bipartisan support until Putin's puppet got reelected. From that point on, many GOP members suddenly had amnesia about their statements regarding Russia's unprovoked invasion.

Funny how both Trump and Vance gave away the reasons they hammered Zelenskyy in the Oval Office... Vance had sand in his vagina still from when Zelenskyy "campaigned" for Harris in PA, and Trump of course, because it makes for great TV. Typical showman who cares about nothing but himself.

Why would Trump start negotiating with Russia without any participation from Ukraine? Because it was all a sham.

if Trump doesn’t want the US involved with Ukraine any more than he should’ve never claimed he was going to make peace over there, but he campaigned on shit he either never intended to do (Ukraine) or had no earthly idea how to do it (rein in inflation) and too many of you fell for it.

He's been in office 6 fucking weeks. Stop acting like a child.

Anyone care to guess how many former Soviet states Putin has invaded since 1999?

Hey, Trump could stop this "in 24 hours" if he was so chummy with Putin and could work something out with him, but he won't, because he wants to give Putin everything he desires. Doesn't matter that he shouldn't be there in the first fucking place.

You didn't answer before... what is your solution to this? Keep sending unlimited tax dollars to try to defeat Russia in a land war?

What's your point here? Many in the GOP are to blame also. The McConnell wing of the party is corrupt to the core.

I know your actual point is that they're all mindless Trump drones, but maybe they finally realized that their constituents don't support (further) bankrupting this country over the eastern border of Ukraine.

He uses his charm, wit, and influence to tell his buddy Putin to leave a place they never should have been. Maybe remind him like he's reminded us so many times that he never would have done it if Trump hadn't lost the 2020 election, maybe? I mean you can't have it both ways.

And of course, everyone is corrupt if they don't support Trump. :dunce

Yes, but it goes beyond just, say, selling them arms. That has been a deeply corrupt place for a long time, as all the surveys show.

Which makes it more of a joke that they like to sell it as some shining beacon of Democracy.
Whats funny is how the left has flipped. They used to claim to be the peace loving party. And now they have started to embrace the war position. Hell Liz Chaney is on their side at this point.

McConnell and his ilk were always corrupt. Trump just exposed it.

I still haven't heard your solution to ending this.

How many more billions of our tax dollars should we spend there, Irv? When does this end? Does it ever?
It never ends.....see Israel. How many billions of our money have they got over the years?

That country reminds me of the Batman line...something like..."if you stay around long enough, you become the villain."

That's completely different situation and was explained earlier in this thread, I believe. And what we've sent Israel, even over the last year, still pales in comparison to what we've sent Ukraine.

Trump exposing corruption? That's funny.

And I said, let then tough guy go tell Putin how it's gonna be. I'll sign the petition for his NPP myself.

And what we've given Ukraine is a drop in the bucket compared to what Israel has sucked out of us since 1948.

It's about 300 billion, which is comparable to what we've given Ukraine but that's 77 years, not 3.

I'm sure that number is adjusted for inflation since 1948. Gimme a fucking break. :lol

Israel has gotten more tax payer money than any of us can possibly imagine.

I'm not for funding them, either. Yes, they are an ally, but they're already the most advanced country over there and more than capable of taking care of themselves.
