I guess you were one of those who were "bored" watching the 90s Cowboys?

What is so unenjoyable in watching the Cowboys win a potentially non-competitive game that gives them the division title and #2 seed?

I don't get it.
I'm actually concerned that its a game where the OL can't hold up and it becomes a situation where we can't move the ball and struggle through it.

On the Harper slant call, Pat was fine at the start but did kind of seem almost bored by the end... "They're gonna run him down, however."

Um, still humongous and almost guaranteed to be the game-sealing play, Pat.

At least Madden was there to get fired up and make clear what a amazing play it was.

Maybe so, but that's completely different from viewing a potential blowout as a negative.

There isn't a single scenario that I can think of where I wouldn't want to see the Cowboys make a game non-competitive. But if it's a game with big stakes on the line?

A blowout is the IDEAL outcome!

I just can't for the life of me understand how this could be viewed as anything other than positive.

What is someone gonna say next? Super Bowl 27 kinda sucked because we scored 52 on Buffalo?

Give me a break.

If Allen is out I don't think there should be any concern, even if he plays I don't think there's much to be worried about. Allen and Payne are tough, sure, but we've generally handled them well in the past, and that's when they were playing for something and had a Pro Bowl DE playing next to them.

Not to mention, we just went up against a very similar DT duo in Miami and the OL held up well enough there to put up what should've been 27 points, and obviously Miami has significantly more talent on the rest of their defense than Washington.

Brutal.

You'd have thought he was calling a preseason game.

I think that's because when he caught it and got into the open field, it looked like he was gonna score but then soon after you realize they're gonna run him down.

That's why Pat's emotion dies down a little and rightfully so.

What made Summerall so great and so unique was his delivery. I'm glad he wasn't the hollering type. And I also think he shows more emotion than he gets credit for because at the end of the play, he says "That was a call! Whoa-ho!".

That's about as excited as you'll ever hear Pat and it speaks to how he recognized what a giant play that was.

I'm glad he was the way he was and it's what made him so special. I wouldn't change a thing about how he called that play.

Fair enough. No doubt he was the GOAT overall. And yes, I prefer him over the circus style screaming we get today. It's just that one play where he could have been a little more excited given the setting and the stakes involved.

And a random add... Did anyone back then remember having to temper their excitement because they had to wait five seconds to make sure there wasn't a flag? Me neither. Sure was nice.

No sir.

It's more like'

"Aikman quickly.... THE PASS TO HARPER! HARPER OFF TO THE RACES..... They're gonna run him down however... At about the 9 yard line, Dana Hall.

That was a heck of a call! Whoa-ho"

Don't be selling my man short, Geng!

I loved Summerall because his voice came to be associated with big moments and that itself lent to the drama.

That's pretty much how I feel. I never liked Summerall's style but Madden always played off it extremely well because they were kind of opposites. So I definitely have a nostalgia for Summerall.

THAT'S A GOOD THING!

WGAS if the game isn't competitive? THAT WOULD BE A GOOD THING!

How could a blowout where we secure the #2 seed be "hard to watch" in any way shape or form?

I don't understand that.
All the positives are there, to be sure. The Skins just don’t inspire like they do when they’re competitive. Riverboat Ron is a goner probably after time expires .

I didn't mind the call. I usually only pay attention to them between plays, anyway. I don't need an announcer to let me know if a moment is big or not. I can figure that out on my own.

THE PASS TO HARPER! HARPER OFF TO THE RACES.

That was not his inflection at all.

Madden's response to that was great though.

Especially when Summerall said of Norv "I don't know if he feels good quite yet," after Madden mentioned that he hitched his pants up. And Madden corrected him, "I don't know that was a big play though Pat."

It was like Madden recognized how huge that was a lot more than Summerall did. Madden was great in that sequence.

Yes it was!

Go back and listen to it! Those lines are when his voice raises!

Pat recognized it too which is why he says in unison with Madden "That was a heck of a call!"

But Pat was right -- as big as that play was the game wasn't over as the Cowboys were only up 4 and were in the same spot the drive before and came away with no points.

I won't accept this slandering of the great Pat!

By the way, it's funny how some of you guys are mentioning that Brad Sham's call on the play was better when he's become the exact opposite since then.

I used to love Brad Sham but now I think he's pretty bad. Talk about no emotion or not calling a play properly.

Brad will call a play that you'll never know was a big play or was a potential scoring play until it's over.

I don't know what happened to him, but I don't like it.
