That’s retaliation for our absurd actions. Trump wants a long term global trade war, so that was inevitable. The problem is that this will cause a massive recession and stagflation. It’s a very stupid proposition. On both sides. If the federal income tax was abolished, then the impacts of tariffs wouldn’t be economically catastrophic. But, having both is crippling. This is literally the largest, unlawful, and unconstitutional tax increase in US history. It’s abhorrent.
Of course we are all with you about lowering or eliminating the income tax but you can’t get the votes to do that.

Why retaliation? You mean the tariffs that have been imposed after Trump announced his own? No, I’m saying, other countries tariff out exports. Have for years. We are getting a bad deal.

What’s the solution to level that playing field? I think Trump’s end game is populist, not strictly conservative, so he wants to increase American manufacturing. American shit is more expensive for a lot of reasons but I certainly understand that in the current free trade environment we aren’t getting the best deal. If his objectives are to work out a better deal and then roll back the tariffs I’d accept that.

If his plan is long term tariffs he’s signing a death warrant for the party in 2028 so I guess we will see.

No, he isn’t. The tariff metrics don’t prove that out. Not remotely. This is cutting off an arm because someone cut their finger.
Well he’s over reacting on purpose to prove a point. Of course his proposals aren’t even, they are designed to generate a shock response with our trade partners and to that end he accomplished it.

The question is whether it will work, pressuring them to give us a better deal. The propositions he has made cannot stand up long term, everyone knows that.

And it was wrong. Jesus Christ, your collective blind complacency and willingness to allow “leaders” to rape the Constitution as long as it suits your narrative makes me want to puke.
I think his point was that we didn’t all flip out about the constitutionality when it happened like you said we would have.

If it makes you feel better this is a conversation we will all come down on your side on for the most part.

But I’m tired of the Bushes and the McCains and the Romneys. They violate the constitution just as much and all the Democrats violate it way more.

Run me a Ron Paul and he will get my vote. But I’ve argued against the “you have to choose the lesser of two evils,” and I have been convinced that Trump in his totality isn’t a lesser evil for conservatism. You’ll never get 100% dogmatic discipline. You can’t settle for unacceptable but I didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 but he convinced me that term he reached the realm of acceptable.

I don’t like the Tariffs but it don’t really believe he wants them permanently, I think he’s trying to implement a populist revolution back to American manufacturing. That has its own pitfalls but he lowered income taxes, has a great judge appointment record, didn’t start any wars, etc. If you aren’t getting Ron Paul I struggle to think of a modern conservative who you think would do better.

I live in both CA and TX. And, infrastructure and supply chains are the same across the country. Remember the industry I work in. It takes years to get manufacturing facilities up and running. It’s hilarious that people fool themselves into thinking otherwise.

And, we don’t have the resources to procure many of the raw materials needed for production, anyway, so we’re still dependent on imports. Meaning, we’re eating the tariffs, but now also get to eat US labor costs and regulation expenses.
So how do you fix the problem?

I get that you hate he’s costing you money but you are missing the forest for the trees.

You admit it’s a problem. One side wants to make the problem even bigger. Trump is at least trying something to stop the problem even if he ends up being wrong (which he might).

I really hope that the latter is not the case. The thought of the country run by Democrats makes me sick to my stomach.

You know me well enough to know that my solution would never be implemented because it would require Congress to grow a spine. My wants are simple. Aside from eliminating taxes and total acceptance of the Second Amendment, I want the President of the US (the position, not Trump specifically) to have so little power that it doesn’t matter who occupies the position, rather than the President having so much power that it doesn’t matter who occupies the position.

And, I’ll openly despise anyone who raises my taxes. I don’t care who it is. If you steal my money, then I hate you.

Well then let's call a spade a spade, you think all politicians are evil. No reason to single out one politician.
I’ve been openly critical of every President (and many politicians in general) since joining this forum. I have a general disdain for politicians, but this last crop of them have been particularly bad.

With all the Hitlers we have in American politics, why isn’t the congestion on the freeways going down any?

They’re awful at exterminating people.
To be fair, Democrat Hitlers hate guns, and it’s hard to exterminate people without them. I mean, how many people will drop dead when pink and purple haired trans people just stand there and yell at them?

Oh no... Who will Hollywood suck up to now? Remember when Cena made that pathetic groveling apology in mandarin for the tiniest "insult" ? Or when it was news that Tom Cruise actually stood up to them and refused to take the Taiwan flag off his old jacket?
