I didn't like the hire at all.I think most were. He had top 5 defense 2 of the 3 years he was the DC there.
That's correct. It seems to me that most people hate him because he's been complicit in ignoring one of our most glaring needs (DT
Well he needs to be gone now but he had the resume at the time. Its just been a mess and being giving any responsibility on draft day this past draft cost us.I didn't like the hire at all.
Well that is now. Just saying at the time of the hire most people (I believe) were for the hire. Our defenses, including this year until the team more or less quit on Garrett, have generally performed well under Marinelli relative to the talent he's had to work with.
It seems to me that most people hate him because he's been complicit in ignoring one of our most glaring needs (DT) and because he never took average or worse talent and turned it into an elite unit.
He took a horrific Kiffin defense and with the help of improved personnel made them at least acceptable pretty much every year. I think they under acheived this year and it was time to move on, but I think he generally did a good job here. I don't feel like his defenses were the reason we didn't win for the most part. Our defenses, including this year until the team more or less quit on Garrett, have generally performed well under Marinelli relative to the talent he's had to work with.

We don't need a stud LBer, just a solid dude and Klein fits the bill.
David Onyemata and AJ Klein, come on down.
(If we're being cheap)
Yea, I mean they were up and down this year for sure. They were literally the only reason we were in some games (Saints, Patriots) but were utterly horrendous in others (Vikings, Bears). He took a horrific Kiffin defense and with the help of improved personnel made them at least acceptable pretty much every year. In the interest of accuracy, and to be fully transparent, it was actually the Kiffin hire that I didn't like. I got the two old geezers mixed up.He took a horrific Kiffin defense and with the help of improved personnel made them at least acceptable pretty much every year. I think they under acheived this year and it was time to move on, but I think he generally did a good job here. I don't feel like his defenses were the reason we didn't win for the most part.
Doing the same thing over and over will eventually lead to offenses figuring you out. Great defenses rarely stay great forever unless they adapt and change. Marinelli did a good job for awhile but his time is up. What has done here isn't working anymore and it's time for fresh ideas. I think Nolan is an excellent hire and a guy that has helped with some elite NFL defenses. And luckily we have some cap where he and McCarthy can either pick to retain guys or replace them with pieces they feel will fit the scheme more.Yea, I mean they were up and down this year for sure. They were literally the only reason we were in some games (Saints, Patriots) but were utterly horrendous in others (Vikings, Bears).
I'd put some of it on Marinelli but I think a good amount of the blame goes to Garrett and just the general dysfunction of the organization as a whole. I think guys like Lawrence and Smith got fat and happy and nobody was around to ride their asses, whether you blame Marinelli solely for that or put it on Garrett is up to you. Throw in the fact that Garrett was obviously done before we even got to Thanksgiving and it's hard for me to hate Marinelli too much.
All in all I think he was decent enough during his time here, but as always happens in the NFL, time comes for everybody.
I'm cool with that. I don't think Richard is a total waste but he won't be calling plays with Nolan so it may be a better combination.
100% certain and despite by hate for the owner & GM, its not out of line to have reasonable constraints. Problem is they've never been reasonable in DallasFeh. I am sure McCarthy took the job with some stipulations. I can't for a second think Jerry just said it's all yours, Mike. There had to be some prodding and compromising.
Yeah, Richard coaching the secondary with Nolan as defensive playcaller wouldn't be bad at all.I'm cool with that. I don't think Richard is a total waste but he won't be calling plays with Nolan so it may be a better combination.
my idea is just to highlight the new names as time goes. Instead of having to dig through a thread to follow the hires as they come.I think this thread will work. Tons of discussion already in here about potential staff. I might change the title as we progress, though.
