Boston had the opportunity to vault into elite status with a trade for Butler or George and they passed. I think they will regret it.

You have like 4 top-5 picks. Refusing to give one up for Butler or George is pretty much the height of stupidity.
And 4 years from now when Boston's core consists of Tatum, Porter and whatever studs they end up with in 2019 everyone will be lauding Ainge for his patience and not throwing away the opportunity at great players for rentals.

I notice you didn't include Brown in there, which is understandable considering they just spent yet another 3rd overall pick on a player who is a pure SF just like him. Perhaps if Ainge didn't clutch on to every "asset" like a 87 year old Catholic woman clutching her rosary he could've gotten one of these top 15ish players for Brown, one of the elite picks and a throw in later pick.

But that's done now, the Celtics will now settle in as a nice team who has no real shot at winning it all for the next few years while building for the post-LeBron/Warriors era. It's not a bad move, just one that could end up yielding anywhere from everything to absolutely nothing.

And there's no way the NBA is giving the Celtics the number 1 pick two years in a row, so maybe start watching highlights of Bamba or Ayton instead of Porter. I left out Doncic because it would be truly ridiculous for the Celtics to draft a pure SF three years in a row.

You only had to give away one of those things for four years of surpassing the Cavs in the East... one of those things that may not even pan out.

So, lulz.

I don't count Brown because I've seen him play SG and been adequate as well. He and Tatum/Hayward can play together and all 3 can go on the court together when they want to play small.

This Hayward shit is ridiculous. This dude is not even a top 20 player, let alone some kind of transcendent talent who is going to shape the landscape of the league. Make your decision and leave out the bullshit Players Tribune post or whatever contrived announcement is planned.

Putting out some sort of formal announcement like that explaining your decision should be saved for top 10 players only, if that.

What's next, a 1500 word article from Otto Porter pontificating on why he is going to sign an offer sheet with the Nets?

IMO, this would have been over hours ago but someone jumped the gun and put him in a bad light with the Jazz.

Nailed it.

I like Hayward but god damn man this dude has made one All Star game, never made an All-NBA team and instead of just announcing his decision when the news breaks he does this song and dance so he can release this pretentious 2000 word decision article like he's Mike fucking Jordan or something.

As an aside, if I had to bet on either the Celtics or Sixers to win it all sometime in the next 10 years I'd definitely put it on the Sixers.

We don't have the cap space to take on a monster deal like that.
Of course a number of OKC fans are chalking it up as a solid signing. We'll see if they're singing the same tune next season when teams give him the "Hack-a-Shaq" treatment again.

We're not going to be able to keep him on the floor during close games. Teams are going to foul him with about 5 minutes to play and he'll proceed to shoot 12% from the line, forcing Donovan to bench him until the 2 minute mark.

I expect to see a lot of that next season.

Celtics traded Bradley for Marcus Morris to clear space to sign Hayward, seems like a desperation move.

I've been saying for a while now that what the Celtics are trying to do by not picking a lane is not sustainable and that the end result will eventually be that they aren't good enough to win it all now and will more or less be building for the future while staying competitive now.

Bradley is gone, Smart will be after this year when his contract is up and Crowder's role has been marginalized by the addition of Hayward.

In the very near future they're going to be a team built around Thomas/Hayward/Horford making nearly $90 million combined with their two best young prospects playing the same position as their best player.

Should've just given up the 3, Brown and Bradley for Butler or George.

I wasn't following the details of the move prior to Gordon announcing his intention to sign with the Celtics so I thought they'd be adding him to all the pieces that were already in place.

Now that they've lost Bradley and Olynyk I really don't think they've closed the gap with Cleveland. I think the Cavs would still roll over them in 4 or 5 games.

Except, that's not true. I've said it a few times so I don't get why you keep uniting it.

Brown will play a lot of SG, Hayward SF and Tatum has the length to play some stretch 4 when they want to go that route which will be often.

I don't see Brown having much success as a 2 or Tatum as a stretch 4. Seems to me like Crowder is going to be the stretch 4, splitting time with Morris.

And even if Brown and/or Tatum were to develop into a starting caliber player on a title team in either of those roles I can't see it happening for at least another 2 years.

Honestly with the moves they've made I think the Celtics are only marginally better than last year, if that.

I am setting myself up for a hige disappointment, but the Sixers have a legit playoff chance and if things break right I could see them as high as the 4 seed.

You post this on the same day Fultz gets X-rays on his ankle?
