McCarthy Gone - Now the search is on - Schottenheimer Hired

Except for the relative, to most people, huge paycheck, why would any self respecting coach want this job? Everyone knows by now your nuts are chopped off when you are hired. Also this is one of the most stagnant franchises in NFL history. Those fucking trophies are so old they are irrelevant. Like the championships of those ancient Browns and Lions teams of the past. This organization is comparable to the old Bungles or any other joke franchise of NFL history you can think of.
Good analogy. And I would argue that how the game has changed in between both of those time periods is about the same too. Today’s football is almost 180° different than the 1990s football we grew up watching.

Yeah, but neither of them were our HC.

McCarthy was not a puppet but he didn't have the Jimmy Johnson/Bill Parcells level of control either so he was a bit of a unique case.

But everyone else was a puppet HC who never got that opportunity again and for good reason.

So my point stands -- if you think being the HC of the Dallas Cowboys under these conditions is going to help you, then you're dead wrong.
Yeah, I would think any new HC worth having wants to be able to assemble his staff and shape the roster to fit what he does best. EVERYONE in the NFL knows that is not going to happen in Dallas. Period.

You are quite simply not going to get anyone worth a fuck to come in here as HC when you are told in the interview that the OC, DC, and TE coach (HC in waiting) has already been filled.

So you are stuck with a failed OC living off his last name, or maybe a guy like Moore who could be comfortable with the way they do things in Dallas.

I can't wait for the intro PC where Jerry tells the story about his new coach growing up with football around the breakfast table and BS using salt and pepper shakers to simulate plays.

Apparently Zimmer is butthurt that he didn't get the job? Wasn't aware he even wanted it that much.

Zimmer would have actually made a modicum of sense given that he generally did a really good job in Minnesota.

Still would've been a horrific hire but with some semblance of a speck of logic, Schottenheimer is just pure insanity.

Also, Broaddus says later he hears we are interested in Pete Carroll. But says Pete's camp thinks it's Schotty's job.

I do think BB is at least half full of shit.

Yeah, Zimmer while not at all what I would have wanted at least would have made some logical sense. Successful head coach in the past. Good defensive coordinator. Good leader. Elite work ethic. All that stuff would have been going for him.

If he's interested and we didn't even interview him that's surprising.
While I agree with Simp that Zimmer did a good job in Minnesota, I kind of get it. I mean, the super-dour, almost depressing attitude he puts out is kind of a turn-off. Maybe it shouldn't be, but that kind of gets old. It's okay for a coordinator but not the best look for a HC IMO.

Yeah, seems weird that if the Cowboys were interested in Carroll that his camp would go, well we think they want Schotty. Just such an odd statement about any of it.

In a way its dealing with the Cowboys front office and is there any such thing as odd with them.
