Aside from Buckner and Leonard there wasn't any elite talent on those teams and Leonard may have just been a function of the scheme anyway.
I mean Leonard has basically been shit since he left. But that could be injuries as well.

Buckner is great and has always been great. But he was only on the team for 2 of those seasons.

You can't tell me that Bland and Parsons aren't on a similar level. And eventually Diggs and Overshown will be back. I actually think Overshown would be an absolute monster in this scheme. But to a lesser extent I think you may see Loofa really take off. If Eberflus can figure out this DT mess I actually think there is more talent and potential for it to be better than any of those Colt's defenses were. Maybe he will actually push for a Buckner type talent in the middle.

If they would have spent money in FA and made smart moves like drafting a RB and not trading a #1 WR for a 5th rounder, McCarthy would have had them there contending with SF and Philly every year.

March 12 can't get here soon enough.

Let's see if that turkey neck sumbitch gets off his ass and builds a roster.

I am betting on 1 mid-level signing early and then Stephen's pocket regret kicks in and we coast into blue light special mode.

I think the DT situation would more or less be solved if they resign Osa and spend one of their first 3 picks on the position, but we'll see.

I think Eberflus is decent as a DC but the problem is I don't think he's on the level of making something out of nothing. So for him to be really effective their going to have to draft some more guys since God knows they won't sign anyone.

And the problem with that is that it means there's less chance they'll draft more toys on the offense for Schottenheimer, who also is not a guy that I'd expect to make something out of nothing.
I didn’t do a deep dive on him as the Colts DC, but he didn’t look to be anything super special. 9th-15th rankings in pts allowed over his time there.
Quinn had us 6th in 22, 5th in 23 in points allowed.
So, while it could have been a worse hire I don’t think it’s anything to get all excited about considering the lack of players on D we most likely will get in 2025.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I don't remember those Colt's defenses being uber talented. But I could be wrong. They had a couple of good players. Shaq Leonard's entire career was basically the 4 years he played for Eberflus. He had Buckner for a couple of those seasons who was a bad ass.

But I can't think of any other "great" talent that he had. I think we probably have more talent than some of those defenses.

I think the talent and performance of that defense was good not great.

Yeah but if we take Harmon I think he would be a badass in this defense. Could play NT in pass rushing situations, play 3 technique at other times. I'd do it even if Jerry found some spare change to offer Osa. But he wouldn't.

I mean that's a little unfair. He was 10th, 15th, 10th and 9th in points allowed. So more top ten then you make it sound. And those defenses weren't as talented as the ones Quinn had. They also did something Quinn couldn't. They stopped the run.

Listen I like Zimmer. He was handed a shit situation with the injuries. The defense clearly got better as the season went on. But on the season we did still suck on defense. I would have welcomed him back but Eberflus is a damn good coordinator who managed that Colts defense at a high level. At worst we got a similar quality D-coordinator who isn't at the twilight of his career.
Also probably not high on wish lists for head coaching jobs
