:lol

I could have told Matt Miller that. Rattler is supposed to be a QB whose level of play will be similar to guys like Kyler Murray & Trevor Lawrence. Vandagriff saw the writing on the wall.

This had absolutely nothing to do with Lincoln Riley. It's just another case of a highly rated kid bouncing because he sees that a better QB is currently on the roster.

Like I said on another board.... Kids decommit like a bodily function anymore. The Georgia bagman probably just showed up with a bigger offer.

It's an interesting theory, but still doesn't explain not going ahead and letting Garrett walk. Him letting Garrett hit the bricks doesn't change anything with a potential coaching hire.
Exactly what I've been thinking. Everyone knows Jerry doesn't have to wait until his contract expires. He could have cut him loose on Monday. No one will hold Jerry's feet to the fire. Doing it this way has only lead to all sorts of wild speculation. Firing him today doesn't hurt a dang thing. Being in a "coaching limbo" isn't a big thing.

What's his excuse today? That it's too mean to cut someone loose on a holiday? What will tomorrow's excuse be?

I kind of doubt Garrett would be made McClay's direct boss. More like a random front office executive like assistant vice president or something, and it would be unclear exactly what his responsibilities are even though he'd show up randomly here and there (including in the war room).

But he shouldn't be anywhere near the team. The old failed coach looming in the background as the new coach tries to do his job? That's ridiculous.
So knowing what you know now, do you still think it was absolutely NFCC or bust for him?

It's obvious that this isn't about respect or patience or any other such nonsense.

They are trying to bring him back in some capacity, and at this point, it doesn't matter to me if it's to coach or some front office gig because the mere notion that they would want so desperately to bring him back after overseeing the worst decade of Cowboys history tells me that there is no hope for this team next year no matter who they hire.....if they even bring in a new coach.

I don't even care how this turns out anymore because I feel like all the evidence is there to let me know that there's no point in hoping for the change that the team needs. It's not gonna happen.

It's over.

I don't think it's obvious at all that they are bringing him back.

Jerry is an idiot owner GM who gets too close to his coach. And now it’s supremely difficult to fire him. That is a cardinal sin for a GM

Lots of naivety here, IMO, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I am a Riley fan but I don’t want him as a coach for the Cowboys yet. He has some unwalled land in his coaching career. He needs more time and exposure to make the transition.
agreed, he seems woefully inadequate for an NFL HC job at this juncture in his career

This seemed like a good idea at the time.

At this point, I'm not confident in anything.. Matter of fact, I'm getting a sinking feeling Jones is having to be talked INTO firing him by Stephen and others in the family. Garrett being announced as gone should have happened by now IMO.
