That's a reasonable price and the kind of thing we should have been in the market for.

No..... he's 30..... and he's actually still a pretty good CB.

More importantly, the price is right and you wouldn't be able to tell a difference if it was him playing here instead of Brandon Carr.

Hall has a history of being inconsistent so it's not fool proof, but he did have like the best season of his career last year so he's not on his last legs, physically. He also has said he's willing to play safety and he'd probably be effective at it too.

The point I'm making is that we need to re-evaluate our criteria about how we target what CBs we want to acquire and gear it more towards situations like this, as opposed to the biggest dick contest we got into, determined to pay the best CB on the FA market absolute premium prices.

Hall's contract is less than half of Carr's, 2 years after Carr signed his, and there is not much difference in quality of play. Which is always the case when you are talking about non-elite CBs like Carr.

And I actually like Carr as a player (whereas I always hated a guy like Newman). But he's just not worth the money unless he's Darrelle Revis. Hell, even Darrelle Revis wasn't worth the money last year.

Report: Seahawks will dump Red Bryant

Posted by Mike Florio on February 23, 2014, 9:15 PM EST

With defensive end Michael Bennett due to become a free agent and determined to get a contract far more lucrative than the one-year, $5 million deal he signed last year, the Seahawks plan to create some cap space by parting ways with another defensive end.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that the Seahawks are expected to cut Red Bryant. The cap space would be then used to help keep Bennett.

Bryant has a cap number of $8.5 million, coming from a $4.5 million base salary, a $3 million roster bonus, and $1 million in signing bonus allocation. Cutting him without the post-June 1 designation would result in a cap charge of $3 million, creating $5.5 million in immediate cap space. Cutting him with the post-June 1 designation would require the Seahawks to carry the $8.5 million until June 1, at which time $7.5 million in cap space would be created. The remaining $2 million in dead money would hit the cap in 2015.

Bryant, a fourth-round pick in 2008, started 15 regular-season games and two playoff games in 2013. He had only 1.5 sacks for the entire year.

Report: Falcons set to release safety Thomas DeCoud

Posted by Curtis Crabtree on February 25, 2014, 10:49 PM EST

The Atlanta Falcons appear set to move on from one of their most consistent defenders over the last several seasons.

According to Adam Caplan of ESPN.com, the Falcons are expected to release safety Thomas DeCoud prior to March 15, which is the fourth day of the new league year.

DeCoud has played in all but one game for the Falcons over the last five seasons. DeCoud earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2012 with 76 tackles and six interceptions. However, last season was statistically his worst in the league since assuming a starting role in 2009. DeCoud failed to record an interception and posted just 65 tackles, his fewest as a starter.

The move will free up $3 million in cap space for the Falcons. The move would leave William Moore as the only safety with significant experience on Atlanta’s roster. DeCoud’s release will likely force the Falcons to look for a replacement in free agency or the draft

Funny how you see other teams cut good players because their contracts don't make sense or their play is starting to slip. Not here in Dallas though. We feel the need to cling to them like there are no other options.

D’Qwell Jackson quickly lines up suitors

Posted by Mike Florio on February 26, 2014, 7:10 PM EST

In the wake of the Browns’ decision to part ways with veteran linebacker D’Qwell Jackson, Mike Wilkening identified the teams that could be interested in adding him.

There wasn’t much time for speculation.

Jeff Darlington of NFL Network reports that Jackson already has a visited lined up for Thursday. Jackson has declined to name the team, but he calls it a “great place.”

Jason La Canfora of CBS reports that, in all, seven teams have contacted Jackson. Seven teams. In just a few hours.

The Browns deserve some credit for cutting Jackson now, nearly two weeks before the start of the league year. Flush with cap space, the Browns didn’t need to make the move until the day before a $4.1 million roster bonus became due in March. Releasing Jackson now gives him a valuable head start.

It also gives another team a chance to upgrade its corps of linebackers with a guy who has suffered through eight largely losing seasons in Cleveland.
