Firing McCarthy

What would it take to warrant firing McCarthy?

  • Doesn't matter what happens tonight, he should go if we don't make the NFCC

Yeah I mean calling plays on GameDay is only a fraction of what happens. I'm sure that McCarthy has a lot of input in the offense. He manages the whole team and coaches. It's not just about calling plays.

It kind of steams my clams when people question what he does as if a HC is supposed to be a glorified coordinator and a walk around coach is a new concept. I don't need a detailed itinerary to understand that he's running the team and not in the spa all day.

Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, and Tom Landry were all walk around coaches also.

I prefer the head coach be more administrator than a coordinator-plus.

They can put the prints all over their area of specialty, but handling the team's mood is hard when you are focused on a particular part of the team. It is all about the coordinators. Sometimes hiring your butt buddies from wherever you came from isn't all that. One thing that McCarthy learned is that he had to get a good DC to counter-balance things. He didn't always have that at the end in Green Bay.

I think McCarthy has at least shown he can navigate through things. I don't think he is the most motivational, but that is a tough quality to sustain.

This roster is significantly stronger all around than the slop we had for most of the Parcells years.
Yeah that first year with Parcells was pretty disgusting when you look back at it. Too bad he bolted just as the roster talent was stacked.

It was a great coaching achievement though. Quincy Carter? Troy Hambrick?
Yeah we won games with some of the sadest QB performances you could ever imagine. Meanwhile Hambrick is popping off 3.5 yards per carry. And yet we still managed to win. Purely great coaching.

10/24 passing for 108 yards. And yet win. Sort of unreal. Those were real numbers from the 2003 season.

The structure of this poll is obviously isn’t designed to get unbiased feedback. It is bent on getting rid of someone and leaves no room to voice another view.
