I'm going to need a comment from @bbgun on that Lance hairline...

Also, is Lance one of those weirdos who doesn't hold the ball by the laces? Maybe Shanahan isn't as great a QB coach as I thought.

After watching some highlights it’s easy to see how he could develop into a starter. Nice arm, great scrambling ability, etc. I still think a 4th is too much but it beats having Grier on the roster.

(Foots The King) put you in your place, Irv.
Well sure, it was a weird deal from the start. Why would the 49ers, a team built to win now, trade all their capital for a raw QB who needs a lot of reps to be ready. I never understood that one from the start. Usually a team drafting Trey Lance would be a shit team that doesn't care if they take their lumps for a year or two as they build a roster around him.

Two years of injuries is a big part of it too. Lance hasn't stayed healthy enough to even be on the field long enough to fail. It's like buying a million dollar car and not even being able to drive it off the lot because of mechanical issues.

I agree that a fourth was too rich. But I don't mind the concept of taking on a QB who has physical talent but has had little chance to develop at 23 years old.

Just because they failed with Josh Allen doesn't mean they'd fail again though.
I'll be honest, I thought Allen looked awful in college. I thought he looked awful early in the NFL. I think he is overrated but I'm still shocked at the fact that he has done what he has done the last couple years.

I think it is far simpler than that.

They had Garropolo who was constantly injured. For whatever reason they panicked. The issue is trading up like that to get what really amounted to drafting a kid basically right out of high school. That was hysterical then and could have sunk that franchise had they not lucked into Purdy.

The Cowboys once made the playoffs with Quincy Carter. It's amazing what teams can do when they surround a bad QB with good players and coaches.

I remember seeing Carters stat line after beating the Jets. It was pathetic. Like 40% completion and 90 yards. Crazy what a good coach can accomplish.
