I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen Jaylon Smith's name on the chopping block. Plenty of other teams are already shedding bad contracts. The Dolphins cut Kyle Van Noy the other day and he's actually a good LB who still had a few years left on his contract.

Makes me think they want to restructure his deal and keep him on board.
Jaylon Smith and "restructure" should not be words that go together.

That was a horrible signing that we need to get the fuck away from.

Restructure absolutely not. Paycut would be more like it. But why would Jaylon do that?

I think the good news is there should be more quality free agents this year than most years because of the cap crunch and teams being forced to purge. So maybe there will be better options on the second round of free agency.
That is good news. Higher supply generally means lower prices. Maybe we'll be shoppers after all?

To avoid being outright released.

Based on his play in 3 of his 4 seasons of play, he'd be hard-pressed to find a team that's willing to sign him to a lucrative contract.

Regarding Jaylon, I’m not hugely confident but I don’t like making even more holes on a defense with holes all over already. I’m inclined to give him another shot with a second year in the scheme.

There are going to have to be some really creative GMs out there or there will only be a handful of teams that can do anything

He has terrible instincts. He rode his athleticism all this time. The faster game of the NFL showed his true ceiling. He will never be shit in this league. You can't coach instincts, and that has been proven out with Jaylon Smith.

We should have plenty of space then.

Restructure Cooper, Martin and maybe Lawrence, cut shitbirds like Canady, Chris Jones, Darian Thompson and Olawale and we're looking at about 25-30 million in space.
You mean 25-30 mill in MORE space. We have already rolled over about 27 mill.

I think we only had about 25-30 before signing Dak, so bump that down to 3-7 or so and restructuring should put us around 25-30 depending on how many guys we restructure (I'd rather avoid Lawrence but am fine with Cooper/Martin).

Either way 25-30 in space should be plenty to actually sign a real impact FA (we won't).

Yeah, I'm a moron and didn't factor in the Dak hit. We still should have around 30-35 mill in space if restructures/cuts are done smartly.

Heard an interesting angle on NFL radio while driving home from work.

They were talking about the Cowboys wanting to sign Dak last year for 5 years and having to franchise him. His tag was around 31 mil, so if you add that money and year on top of this contract, it is still like they got him for 5 years at around 35-36 mil per over 5 years. (last year, and this 4 year contract.)

Nice spin job, but interesting. I think we all would have been happy if he signed a 5 year last year deal for that kind of money.

Overthecap has us at -1.165mm in cap space. I think it is figured at 180 for the cap and the 27 carried over from last year. our current cap number is 209 and change
