Cowboys sign Prescott to a 4 year contract

Heard an interesting angle on NFL radio while driving home from work.

They were talking about the Cowboys wanting to sign Dak last year for 5 years and having to franchise him. His tag was around 31 mil, so if you add that money and year on top of this contract, it is still like they got him for 5 years at around 35-36 mil per over 5 years. (last year, and this 4 year contract.)

Nice spin job, but interesting. I think we all would have been happy if he signed a 5 year last year deal for that kind of money.
160 and 31 is 191, divided by 5 that's a little over 38 million.

It's ok given that insanity of the market, especially since his cap hit this year is just 22 million, but it's not some amazing savings when they supposedly could've gotten him for 35/year if they just did 4 years last year.

Dak just eclipsed Tone’s career earnings in a single contract
And, Romo eclipsed Aikman's last contract by about 5 times. That's how this league market works. You either keep up or get left behind. I am glad the Cowboys decided to keep up in this case.

Not my math. Take it up with NFL radio.

But look at it this way... If they had signed him for 4 years last year, then we'd not have the last year of this contract. Which at that time, should be pretty nicely under the current going rate.

Given the current QB situation within the NFC East, if Dak stays healthy the Cowboys should be able to sleepwalk to the division title. Assuming the defense improves to at least middle of the pack.

You mean 25-30 mill in MORE space. We have already rolled over about 27 mill.
Should be some decent money to sign a couple of quality starters on D.
Would love to see them sign a DT like Dalvin Tomlinson, a decent vet LB and maybe an old fart like Sherman who knows Quinn's system and might be somewhat cheap given age...
Then find a way to get a good safety in the Draft. More I hear about Trevon Mohrig the more I like him, personally.

That would require a trade, either up from the 2nd or down in the 1st.

A guy like Moehrig is too rich for the Cowboys' blood. I've given up hope on them ever using an early round pick on the Safety position.

The headscratcher about their stance on safeties' draft value is they operate as if they've been burned badly by drafting safeties in the past. Unless I'm forgetting someone, Roy Williams was the last safety they drafted with an early round pick and that actually worked out well for them. Roy Williams made several Pro Bowls and an All-Pro team or two while he was in Dallas. You'd think given the success they had with that pick that they'd be more open to drafting safeties early.

You want a good QB...you have to pay. It is what it is. Just hope he's not Danny White 3.0

Sign Marcus Williams and DJ Jones, then go into the draft and do whatever.

Ideally we'd trade down and take Rousseau, Slater or Zaven Collins, then potentially move up from the 2nd for a Barmore, Nick Bolton or some such.

White was a good qb. Better than Romo.
White and Romo are my top 2 most underappreciated QBs in our history. White just happened to follow the GOAT and was judged against that standard. Romo was given an impossible situation and was judged against that. They were amazing and should be remembered as such.

Prescott signed long term while news broke that the Eagles are supposedly building around broke ass Jalen Hurts.

Solid day.
Yeah I'm so glad they are hitching their wagon to that turd. The Skins have no QB and Daniel Jones is a bumbling retard. We should be able to dominate this division.

Yea if we miss the playoffs (really if we don't win the division) McCarthy should honestly be fired unless something insane happens like Daniel Jones magically turning into Mahomes or the Skins trading their next 3 drafts for Watson.

Cut Chris Jones.
We could open up about 5-6 million in space by cutting Chris Jones, Darian Thompson, Maurice Canady and Olawale.

We could likely sign Marcus Williams or Dalvin Tomlinson to a multi-year deal with the first year cap hit being right around 6 or so.

Think about that.

Because Stephen won't.
