How a six-year deal could be a compromise for Cowboys, Dak Prescott
IMO a six year deal that voids to a four year deal is a perfect compromise. And that contract would likely be extended well before year four ends if both parties are happy

Let him walk. He’s just not worth it. Rebuild. This team blows.

Oh my fucking God I would become @Iamtdg putting up billboards if they went this retarded
I just don't get it

I am not a Prescott mark, nor have I ever been.

But do people realize how hard it is to find even a decent one?

Let's get real here, these shitheads running the draft would have had Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook as solutions.

Exactly, it's like these retards forgot when we were in qb hell with Jerry picking them

It would be stupid to let Prescott go, but they can’t just hand him Mahomes money either.

A six year voidable deal helps both parties. And this is a favorable year for management to negotiate a deal because of the lower cap ceiling. Just watch the insane inflation the next live-audienced season cap ceiling will allow.

Until the NFL lets defenses loose again, QBs are going to continue to rule the game like never before and the disproportionate salaries are going to keep slowly eroding the integrity of the game. No matter how high the cap goes, both the QB salaries and percentages are going to rise.

Want to stop the insane prices? Let QBs get hit again, stop letting OL hold arbitrarily, stop calling 15 yard penalties when a defender incidentally grazes a QBs head, and stop calling every ticky tack DPI or DH. The uneven refereeing is making the games feel fixed anyways in favor of creating drama in the 4th quarter.

Let's recap those days...

Aikman's last year (2000) we had Randall Cunningham and Anthony Wright as our backups

2001 we had Quincy Carter, Ryan Leaf, Clint Stoerner and Anthony Wright

2002 we had Chad Hutchison and Quincy Carter

2003 we had Quincy Carter (what a brutal year this was)

2004 we had Drew Bledsoe and Vinny T

2005 we had Drew Bledsoe

2006 we saw Tony Romo for the first time after Bledsoe was benched by Parcells

Yeah, it was without a doubt QB hell, and a place I never want to revisit. Fucking sign Dak already.

When you consider that Romo and Dak were pretty much dumb luck blessings, I have no faith in this team to identify a franchise QB.

We need to send Thank You notes to Denver and Las Vegas (weird to say still) or else we would have had Lynch or Cook instead of Dak. That is some kind of luck there.

I'm ready for some of that same dumb luck to present itself on the defensive line.

For a minute it seemed like David Irving would be that guy.

It took me literally 10 minutes to come up with this while I was shitting, but if Stephen can break away from the Jones family redneck retreat long enough to use his brain for a few hours I'm sure he could come to the conclusion that this deal, or literally anything similar, would be far better than tagging Prescott, and give us way more flexibility.

4 years, 156 million (39 AAV), 28 million signing bonus, 100 million total guaranteed.

Year 1: 34 million cap hit, 25 million of salary guaranteed. 28 million remaining of SB proration, dead cap of ~53 million if cut
Year 2: 37 million cap hit, 25 million of salary guaranteed. 21 million remaining of SB proration, dead cap of ~46 million if cut
Year 3: 41 million cap hit, 22 million of salary guaranteed. 14 million remaining of SB proration, dead cap of ~36 million if cut
Year 4: 44 million cap hit, 0 million of salary guaranteed. 7 million remaining of SB proration, dead cap of ~7 million if cut

That's basically a 3 year commitment because we could cut him going into year 4 with only a 7 million cap hit. He'd be uncuttable over the first three years, but is that really much of an issue when we already know he's a lock to be here in "year 1"/2021 for 37 million anyway if he's tagged?

You'd save 3 million against the cap in 2021 compared to the tag, and in 2022 you'd have him with a cap hit for the same number as you would've had him for in 2021 if you tagged him. Then in years 3 and 4 his hits are 41/44, which is probably below the inevitable 45 million/year contracts that guys like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson get.

I had just as soon not take that chance. Remember the last QB to come from that school? :unsure
Which is why I don't think Philly will roll the dice with Lance at 6. Stick with Hurts or draft someone from a big-time program.

There may be a chance that Lance is as good as Dak some day.

But there is probably a great chance that he isn't. So why take the risk? Might be different if there was a way to swing Dak for 2 or 3 first round picks to help with the rebuild. But if you just let Dak go you're basically giving away assets which is one of the dumbest things you can do in the NFL.

This right here tells you why they really have no choice but to just sign Dak long term.

It's not so easy to find a good QB even in the first round.

We could try to rebuild around Trey Lance.
I don't like that idea.

The concept of "build around" a QB is not something this franchise is equipped to do, even if you factor in the bust factor of a 1st round QB.
