Switzer was looking for anything he might actually contribute to the situation, and in doing so completely misread where Troy was coming from.Weird how Switzer objected to Troy chewing out Kevin Williams. That's pretty common when a receiver screws up a route. And then to make it racial.![]()
I read his autobiography, "Bootlegger's Boy" and in it Switzer clearly has this self-perception that he built his rep on looking past race by aggressively investing in the black athlete. That's where Barry himself thought he shined best, confronting racism.
Troy was not being racist, even if that's what some others might have thought.
Troy couldn't believe what he was hearing when Switzer called him into his office about it. He thought they were finally going to connect and align on goals, and then out of nowhere Switzer brings up this racism crap.
