I haven't seen him take any reps at LT so far, and I think he may have only played at RT in the past. If they aren't going to move Smith I'd rather roll with Thomas or Richards, especially since it's only going to be a game or two.

This is cynical, but justified... Wonder if they'd be more apt to move Smith after that extension is signed.

They should be signing Gilmore today, but instead they'll try to wait until after week one to save the guaranteed vet contract. If they even call him at all.

Is something wrong with Asante Samuel Jr.? I was surprised when I saw that he's still available. Is he still suffering from his injury that knocked him out last year?

Per Grok...best I could do.

Asante Samuel Jr. remains unsigned primarily due to medical concerns stemming from a shoulder and neck injury that limited him to just four games in the 2024 NFL season. He underwent neck surgery in April 2025, and teams are hesitant to sign him until he receives medical clearance, with a key check-up scheduled for early July 2025. Despite his proven talent—six interceptions and 37 pass breakups in 50 career games—the injury history, particularly a recurring "stinger" condition he has dealt with since birth, has raised red flags for potential suitors. Teams like the New Orleans Saints, who hosted him for a visit, and others such as the Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, and Baltimore Ravens have shown interest but are awaiting confirmation of his recovery before committing. Additionally, his market may be affected by his reputation for poor tackling and struggles with press coverage, though his playmaking ability and youth (25 years old) make him an attractive option for zone-heavy defensive schemes once cleared.

Smitty is Ernie?
I think Nathan Thomas might actually be the guy who has the potential to "shock" the world or whatever this moron calls it.

Unlike Guyton he actually played extensively at LT in college, he also has nearly ideal size at 6-5, 332 with 33.75 inch arms, and he's seemingly at least neck and neck with Richards in terms of getting reps at LT with the second team.

It'll be fascinating to see which of them plays more with the 1's over the next few weeks, and I'd absolutely love it if one of them impresses enough to where they could be a long-term answer at LT with Guyton moving over to RT to replace Steele next year.
