Wonder if there's any way this guy makes the team. He had a sweet one handed INT off Milton (terrible decision BTW) earlier in camp and to me showed some quickness after making the catch. Actually that play was far more impressive than either of these "highlights", which are pretty routine.

Per Grok...best I could do.

Asante Samuel Jr. remains unsigned primarily due to medical concerns stemming from a shoulder and neck injury that limited him to just four games in the 2024 NFL season. He underwent neck surgery in April 2025, and teams are hesitant to sign him until he receives medical clearance, with a key check-up scheduled for early July 2025. Despite his proven talent—six interceptions and 37 pass breakups in 50 career games—the injury history, particularly a recurring "stinger" condition he has dealt with since birth, has raised red flags for potential suitors. Teams like the New Orleans Saints, who hosted him for a visit, and others such as the Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, and Baltimore Ravens have shown interest but are awaiting confirmation of his recovery before committing. Additionally, his market may be affected by his reputation for poor tackling and struggles with press coverage, though his playmaking ability and youth (25 years old) make him an attractive option for zone-heavy defensive schemes once cleared.
Why haven’t we signed this guy … I mean ambulance chasers are a major part of our free agent checklist ..:rolleyes:rolleyes

Won't bother with the Eberflus one because frankly I don't think he said much that was very interesting.

Yep, doesn't surprise me at all based on what I've seen from the (limited) practice videos they've been posting, combined with the fact that he actually has extensive LT experience and ideal size. He seems like a guy who fits well with what Riley and Adams want to do schematically.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if he ends up being the long-term LT with Guyton shifting to the right to get off of Steele's ridiculous contract, and if he plays well enough over the next month they may even just leave him there even when Guyton comes back.

Richards could still be a valuable swing OT.

Go back to before camp. Did you have Thomas as even making the roster?
Yea I thought he's a guy they'd probably keep as a backup at OG and RT, LT wasn't on my radar because I thought he was an RT in college, but once I saw him getting so many reps as an LT with the 2's I went back and realized it was LT that he played in college.

They've kept schlubs like Ball and Waletzko around for 4-5 years, I figured the least they could do is give Thomas 2-3.

I don't know if he has the feet to be really good, but I noticed he has a big upper body, almost like a guard. Guyton has a problem with not having that natural strength to him but I doubt that's a problem for Thomas. Have to think he'd probably be a good run blocker too because of that.

That's why I think they might be able to get away with him at LT in this scheme, I think Riley and Adams are going to be focused on moving the LOS in the run game as the top priority and then they'll work around the rest as needed.

Was Thomas actually hurt or an IR roster stash?

I always thought it was just a redshirt year for a late pick. I guess he could have really been hurt, but I thought they said knee tendonitis which shouldn't keep anyone out all season.

I might need some help, I could be getting hopeful on Thomas. :skurred

Watched one of the DC.com podcasts with Nate Newton and he said when Guyton got hurt he asked Will McClay about Richards playing LT and McClay didn't hesitate in saying no, it'll be Thomas. What if we found one late...
