I really like him. He's tagged as this low-ceiling guy and only a #2, but he looked pretty good to me, and against quality competition. He'd be perfect opposite CeeDee because he's such a level headed guy, too. CeeDee didn't test great either, and EE might be sort of similar (though not as good) in that he just knows how to play the game.
Did he test poorly? I mean the numbers won't blow anyone away but 4.48 forty? 4.12 short shuttle is a really good time. 38 inch vertical is good.

He just doesn't have elite testing numbers. But they are pretty solid from what I can tell.

I agree. Surprisingly a lot of the Buckeyes have been pushed down further than I would have thought considering the year they had. I think Henderson is finally being talked about in the right place and Judkins is a vi ton of how deep this class is but both could be very good players for a long time. Tuiomalo isn’t getting much press, Howard feels like an afterthought, their DBs were solid enough to consider drafting. Still not sure how Denzel Burke fell off so bad.

I thought I just said he didn't test great...

Yeah, maybe that's not what you meant. When someone says "this guy didn't test great" my mind interprets that as "he tested poorly." But it could just mean, he tested really good, just not special.

I think his short shuttle is pretty impressive. But what the hell does that really mean? Who knows.

Took a quick look at the mock draft database site and zipped through a bunch of mocks. The vast majority of them have us going Tet or Golden. Only a smattering of other players like a Booker or Banks or Hampton.

I think there's a high bandwagon factor and very little info on what our team really thinks. I wonder how our brain trust really feels about a WR that high.

I think a lot of that is the 30 visits and bringing in the top 4 WRs. Just gives everyone the impression we are going WR. But beyond that I think the team has been tight lipped. Hell there are probably 7+ 30 visits that we still don't even know who they were yet. The Cowboys have been sneaky this year compared to others.

True, and I think we probably will also, but I guess I don't see it as that sure a thing.

Even though I like Golden, I guess in the back of my mind I have a little problem with going WR when it's such a weak class. When I look at why this team isn't doing better, lacking a #2 WR doesn't even make my list. I really feel that they're going to force the ball to CeeDee no matter who is on the other side because that's where Jerry's money is. That's the part I don't like. Then if we go RB next, we've gone a while without addressing front seven at all.

Oh well. I'm still hoping we trade down some which would help all of that.

I don't have faith that we go WR. I actually think it's a huge need. Right now behind Lamb your WRs are what? Tolbert, Mingo, Brooks and Flournoy? Some will say Turpin but we hear every year about him having a role on offense and outside of a couple of big pass plays it's a giant wet fart. Guy has been here 3 years and his best receiving season was last year with 420 yards. This offense just doesn't work with really only 1 receiving weapon. Which is what we have right now.

But if you look at the history of the Cowboys over the last decade plus we just don't draft WR's highly. Lamb and Dez are the outliers. They were the "holy shit" I can't believe they are still available picks. Outside of those two we take guys in the middle and late rounds. We trade for guys. But we don't really target a WR and go get them. So picking at 12, I don't know that any of these WR's are going to feel special enough to take for the Cowboys at 12. None of them are going to be, holy shit, I can't believe Golden is available at 12. Even though Golden, Egbuka and McMillan are far more talented than any of the offensive weapons we have outside of Lamb.

And I get you with addressing the front 7 on defense. But here is why it wouldn't shock me if this draft is offensive slanted. Look at our free agency/offseason. Who are the guys we signed or traded for. Fowler, Murray, Sanborn, Solomon Thomas, Payton Turner. All of them are front 7 guys. We also added Kaiir Elam. Those are all the biggest contracts we took in during the offseason. And Osa was the biggest contract of all. But it was almost all defense. On the offensive side it was Javonte Williams and Robert Jones? We had some late additions in Saahdiq Charles, Parris Campbell and Miles Sanders but those feel like complete shot in the dark camp bodies. So when you talk about the team and addressing the front 7, that's kind of what they did in free agency (And via trade).

And I think that is exactly why we should go WR in the first if one of Tet or Golden is there. The overall class is weak, but the top is just fine. But the top is thin. We need a #2 that can step in right away. After the top 4-5 WRs in this class, there are just a bunch of guys just like the ones we already have on the roster. I'd grab either Tet or Golden at 12. If by some strange reason they're gone, I'm desperately trying to trade down, targeting Egbuka or Burden.

I don't agree with that at all. Our offense is so predictable right now. Roll coverage to CeeDee, and play our below average running game straight up. Tet/Golden along with a starting caliber RB in the 2nd or 3rd will completely change how this offense looks. We have problems all over this team, and not having a reliable #2 is one of the bigger ones.

I agree a trade down would help us tremendously with all our needs. But I wouldn't trade to just say we did, either. It has to make sense. This DT class is deep. We can still get one that will contribute in the 2nd/3rd depending on how we go with the RBs.

Our WR room outside CeeDee is pathetic for sure, but only a couple of years ago when Dak was MVP runner-up, our #2 was an old Cooks. I'm just saying you don't have to spend a #12 overall to get that, or even better than that.

If, for instance, we traded down several spots and took Egbuka, I'd be good with that. I'd even be good with, say, one of the Iowa State guys in the second or so. Agree that much past that, you're hoping to get lucky.

And I actually think trading down is what we'll try to do. I just hope there's a buyer there, but then there usually is.

If you were a defensive coordinator trying to stop the Cowboys offense, how easy are we to defend right now? Double Lamb, end of game plan. You worried about having single coverage on Mingo, Brooks or Tolbert? Are you afraid of this run game led by Jevonte? And when that doesn't work, we'll Dak just sucks. It's his fault that Tolbert and Brooks aren't stars. Or Mingo who was a dumpster before coming here.

Fair enough on the depth. I guess I'm not that sold on either guy, even though again I do like Golden. But even with him I have a little doubt.

But I still think defense is a much bigger need than a #2 WR. Our DL is total crap. Mazi can't play and Osa can't play every down. Our LBs are very spare without Overshown, and maybe even with him. I'm afraid we'll keep saying, "This DT group is deep, we can wait" and we'll wait so long that we fail to take advantage of the strong class.

And when you said it's too easy to take CeeDee out of the game, I agree, but I'm assuming we're going to help that terrible running game with a better RB, so it won't be as easy as it was last year.

Also, I don't think those WRs are all we'd go with if we didn't take one high. There are a few vet FAs out there who aren't great, but still a lot better than what we have now. (Unless Jerry is set on force-feeding Mingo, which is possible).

A trade down makes sense. If you can't in the first, maybe you can in the second. Worst case scenario if I ignore RB on the first two days, I consider packaging picks to go up in the fourth to get a RB. RB might be the only thing on offense more important than WR. But the depth and position value give me the opportunity to be more patient.

To me if I could find a dream scenario it would probably be trade down. Go WR, DT, Corner and then RB. Maybe swap corner and RB depending on who is available. I really like the DT options in round two.

I agree with this, and it's why I'd take Harmon over McMillan or Golden, but it's not a complete slam dunk and I think it's totally reasonable to take one of those WR's over someone like Harmon or Grant.

If they sit there and take Burden at 12, fine, that's ridiculous, but McMillan/Golden make complete sense at 12 even if you could make an argument that they should go in a slightly different direction.

The problem is not so much passing up a DT at 12, but if they continue to ignore it through the 2nd and 3rd when they could likely get a guy like Tyleik Williams, Alfred Collins, etc.

Collins feels like such a great fit for our defensive coordinator. 6'6" with 34 inch arms. I think Eberflus loves guys with that length on the Dline. What a great dude to pair with Osa.

Our WR room outside CeeDee is pathetic for sure, but only a couple of years ago when Dak was MVP runner-up, our #2 was an old Cooks. I'm just saying you don't have to spend a #12 overall to get that, or even better than that.
And yet come playoff time, our offense couldn't do jack or shit. Hell against any really good defense that 2023 offense got shut down.

But yet that 2023 offense was more talented at RB, TE and WR than we were last year. Cooks in 2023 was a much better player than 2024 (Injured and lacked any explosion when he played). Ferguson went from probowl caliber TE to injured guy. We had at least Pollard and Dowdle in 2023. We downgraded to Dowdle and Zeke in 2024.

Of those positions in 2025? Only one looks like it could be better than 2024 right now. That's TE where I'm hoping Ferguson gets healthy. Otherwise we are worse at WR than 2024 (Hard to believe I know) and worse at RB (Dowdle was a better starter last year than Williams was). And your solution to the offense getting worse is, we need another DT? That WR just isn't that important?

I disagree. But in the end we are talking about #2 needs across the board. We don't need a #1 WR, we need a #2. We don't need a #1 DT, we need a #2 DT. We don't need a #1 corner but we need a #2 (For half a season). RB we need a #1 but outside of Jeanty it's silly to force that need in the first.

This WR class has the top players that I think are really good, and then the bottom falls out and you're gambling on more Tolberts, Mingos, Brooks and Flournoys. I don't feel the same about DT and RB in this draft. And corner I kind of feel the same way, except I at least think Diggs is on his way back eventually. And I think I can still get a really good corner that can play zone in the third round. Different scheme and I may feel differently. Or I can go get a veteran corner knowing it may not be the long term need but a short term need.

I agree with what you are saying. (except for the part of WR #2 not being as big a need.) But I just don't know if I want to take the chances that things will fall perfectly. Now, if the Gods smile on us and give us something like this with a trade down? I'm good with it. This would be best case scenario for me, but waiting until the 5th for our RB scares the shit out of me.

:lol Of course my solution to improving the offense isn't a defensive player. That doesn't even make sense.

I'm just saying that when I step back and look at the big picture, how often is a team that's mediocre in so many areas improved that much by a really good #2 WR? Hardly ever that I can think of.

And again, I'm not saying to totally ignore WR. I think less of Tolbert than probably anyone, and nobody with any sense (so excluding Jerry) would count on Mingo. I'm just not sure about #12 overall. At an 18-20 or lower, or our second, sure. And if I had to, I could roll with a Lockett at #2 WR this year.

But if we don't improve other areas of the team, our offense getting slowed down in the playoffs won't be a concern... because we'll never get there in the first place.
