Seems absurd but I don't know how they could change it without making the divisions meaningless.
Agree, I'd hate to be like the NBA where divisions are basically totally meaningless.

They can't change it nor should they.

This formula gets it right away more than it gets it wrong, but some years you're going to have anamolies like this one.
Yep. But you have to keep it the same. Homefield does have it's advantages. That's just the perk of winning your division. On the surface, yeah it seems bad. But a 13-14 win team should be able to go into a 8-9 win division winners house and still win relatively easy.

If they only took the top 7 records, then like was already mentioned, divisions don't mean anything any more. All the history, all the rivalries are out the window.

I remember the Jags crying about this in 2005 because they felt they shouldn't have had to go on the road in the wild card round as a 12-4 team (The Colts won the division and had home field).

And what did they do? They got dominated 28-3 by the 10-6 Patriots.

The defending champion Saints in 2010 complained about the same thing because they had to visit a 7-9 Seattle team who only won their division because it was so bad.

Well, they lost that first game too.

So yeah, it sucks to be on the shitty end of a bad luck year where you win enough games to be a top 2 seed most years, but like I said, this system gets things right way more than it gets them wrong and just because you're perceived to be the "better" team, it doesn't mean success is guaranteed.

I hope they never change it.

Stole this and thought it was pretty interesting. I keep hearing that the Packers are a dangerous team to play in the playoffs. On the surface, I guess I could see that. But looking at their 11 wins? Yikes.

0-2 Colts
0-3 Titans
1-4 Rams (No Nacua or Kupp)
2-4 Cardinals
5-2 Texans (No Collins)
2-6 Jags
4-6 Bears (by 1pt lol)
5-6 9ers (Hobbled CMC no Purdy or Aiyuk)
5-7 Dolphins (Tua can’t win in the cold)
8-6 Seahawks (No Kenneth Walker)
5-10 Saints (No Carr, Kamara, Shaheed or MVS)
<<Combined opponent record: 37-56>>

I didn't realize how soft their schedule was. Holy shit. Where do we sign up for one of those?

And they will be a 12 win team off that schedule going into the playoffs. They have the Bears this week to finish up.

I think if any player of stature ties in incentives is an idiot. Any agent who suggests that is of ill repute.
