LAWL @ the whole work from home thing,

Fuck you, COVID is over.

Or, people aren't stupid and realized with the shutdown that a lot of jobs can be done from home with no real business impact. And then you get to save gas money, parking money, public transportation money, wear and tear on your car, and commute time.

Plus you can potentially spend more time with your family.

On top of that, businesses can take advantage because they can downsize the office saving money on rent and other overhead. And, because they now have the ability to tell people to work from home at a moment's notice, they can virtually eliminate downtime from things like power outages and snowstorms.

Right the fuck on.

My last company had the common sense to not try and fix what wasn't broken due to some absurd and antiquated mentality that says if they can't keep their eye on you, then that means you couldn't possibly be an adult professional who could work efficiently under no direct supervision.

:jerk

During the year of the pandemic, we all worked from home everyday for the remainder of the year after we got sent home that March. And because it turned out to be the most lucrative year in the history of the company, our CEO had the common sense to realize that clearly things were working and not to change anything and made it voluntary for those weirdos who actually do want to go into the office.

So from March 2020 until this past November, I had been home full time.

The only reason that I'm not still there is because the company was part of an acquisition so I got out of there before the layoffs could occur and now I work at a place that requires us to be in the office twice a week.

I mean, what is the fucking point in that?

I'm guessing you're the outlier. Most people don't get as much done from home due to lack of discipline, distractions from family, pets, etc.

@Genghis Khan

Going back to your points about WFH, of all the great benefits of getting to do that, I don't think there's any doubt that the #1 reason why I love WFH the most is all the time you get back that you don't spend getting ready in the morning to get to work and all the commuting that you cut out to and from the workplace.

This is especially true if you work in the city and live in the suburbs as I did at that time.

I would wake up at 5 to be in the office by 7 and I would leave the office at 4 and get home around 5:30.

That was 3+ hours I got back a day that were invaluable. And what these corporate dinosaurs don't understand is, when you don't feel like your time is limited or like you're on this countdown in the evenings before you have to go to sleep and start the grind all over again, you actually work more because you'll devote more time to things because you'll voluntarily spend an hour or so doing something at 8 pm that you normally wouldn't otherwise.

Unless I absolutely had to, I didn't do shit for work once I left the office. I didn't want to know anything about work or think about it in anyway the minute I stepped foot out of that building.

But because I didn't feel like my time was so limited anymore, it didn't bother me to put some extra time into work stuff. So contrary to what those old dinos think, I'm actually MORE efficient working from home.

So you want to force me to come in? Fine. But it's you who is going to lose out even more than I will.

Nonsense.

That's a BS excuse.

Do you know what you do if you find somebody who isn't productive at home and doesn't appreciate the WFH privilege?

You fire their ass and you find one of the millions of adult professionals who would be thrilled for the opportunity to WFH full time and be far more productive than the lazy bastards they're replacing.

People bullshit in the office too, though.

I can't tell you how many times over the years I've heard my peers say that they haven't done shit all day and have just pretended to look busy.

If someone doesn't want to work, they're simply just not going to no matter what their surroundings are.

A lot depends on the type of job you do I would imagine.

I find that most of these fucktards working from home have completely destroyed any sense of customer service and usually lack the motivation
To either address or solve a problem. It was fairly bad during the first part of COVID but now no one gives a fuck about anything.

That's true in the office as well. If anyone is being unproductive you can handle it on a case by case basis. If you don't want to lose your job, you'll be productive enough.
Depending on the size of the org, people can fly under the radar for some time and not be seen slacking . That happens a lot .

True, but you have to have eyes on them in some way to know or measure their production. Different jobs have different means of detection. It’s not necessarily always visible from virtual connection.

Again, that's also true in the office. I can't tell you how many I've seen in the office who spend half their day gasbagging at a coworker's desk.

Hell in a lot of ways the company doesn't even care as long as their bottom line numbers are good.

And if the numbers aren't good they are going to come down on people. That doesn't change whether people are in the office or at home.
