Watching Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff man up these playoffs, I'm convinced Dak Prescott isn't the answer even with a better supporting cast.

Prescott's supporting cast has been good enough for serious regular season MVP consideration multiple years, then suddenly supporting cast isn't good enough in the playoffs to excuse Prescott's fall-off-a-cliff performance come January? Goes from 4/5 stars regular season to 2/5 stars regular season. There's something mental that better supporting cast can't salvage.
The worst is I think Dak's getting shakier in the playoffs. It sort of feels like a distant memory at this point but Dak used to be pretty damn clutch. I think Dallas has gotten to him though. Dak as a rookie for example put together a great performance against the Packers. The team just wasn't good enough. A couple years later Dak beats Seattle in the playoffs and then loses to the Rams. Again, not a bad performance by Dak at all but he lost because our defense sucked donkey nuts against a nobody RB.

Fast forward to the last two playoff losses and he sucked against the 49ers and he sucked against the Packers. It feels like Dak is getting further away from the QB we need. And I can't help but think the pressure in Dallas that comes along with a massive contract just sort of has him cracking. I actually think taking a team friendly deal may relieve some of that pressure. But his agent, brother, and his people will never let that happen.

For the record, I'm reading that after the game Shanahan said he elected to receive because he wanted the ball third.

That's decent reasoning I guess, but it means you need to hold the other team to the same thing you do, which of course they didn't.
I'll kinda buy the tired defense explanation, but wanting the third possession advantage? That's dumb.

Especially dumb since you kicked the FG with a reasonable 4th and 4 at the 9 yard line. If 4th and 15 from the 30, sure, kick FG. But go for the TD if you've made coin toss choice for the third possession advantage.

By kicking the FG, you're expecting to hold Chiefs to the same, but also providing Chiefs the extra 4th down to get into FG position. By then, Chiefs are more inclined to stretch for TD because they don't want 49ers to get the third possession to win. Hell, I'm confident Reid goes for 2 instead of giving 49ers ball back.

At worst, it's inconsistent strategy.

Did anyone else hear Romo weirdly humming along to Adele last night going to the commercial.
:unsure :lol
I saw some people griping about it on X but I thought he was just having fun in that moment.

One of the things that made John Madden so great was his ability to bring levity to the broadcast and not be so uptight and stiff.

If it were Madden humming along to Lynyrd Skynyrd everyone would be fine with it.

The Chiefs said exactly that after the game. They had already prepared prior to the game that if they were in a situation like that they were already decided they were going for 2.

Which means the idea sf had of getting the ball third with a chance at sudden death with the ball was never happening anyway unless the Chiefs had to settle for a FG.

So yeah bad call by SF.

I'm with you. A lot of people complaining about announcers being too irreverent are the same people complaining there are no Maddens around anymore.

People are insane. I can't imagine why a regular person would do that.
Last week I read a couple of articles that listed the price of Super Bowl tickets from year to year. You'd think maybe the price jump is linked to the NFL brining in A-list musicians to perform at halftime but tickets were actually pretty affordable up until about 10 years ago.

Hell, 5 years ago I kicked around the idea of going to the Super Bowl in Atlanta because the tickets were "only" $2K. In 5 years since that Atlanta Super Bowl the average ticket price has increased by 400%.

Basically what it looks like is that it's just corporate greed and these assholes are going to keep jacking up the price as long as idiots are willing to pay $10K for a 4 hour football game.

The 49ers were an OT 4th and 1 stop from winning the Super Bowl. Damn.

Stuff like that happens though. 4th and 1 is fairly hard to stop.

SF also almost had to punt on their first possession of OT until a defensive holding penalty saved their asses.

I don't think it's corporate greed, but the wealth gap.

and Bama could've beat Michigan on a similar play
Incorrect. Bama was down 7. All scoring a TD would've done was tie the game and send it to 2OT. They would not have won.

It is hard to stop. Just remarking that there was that moment. Their Ice Bowl play.

Wonder what's the most devastating loss for them
  • Crabtree incompletion vs Ravens
  • Garoppolo overthrow to Emmanuel Sanders
  • This game

And there's no scale here, you don't have to worry about your price being fair enough to scale across millions or tens of millions of people, you just need 40,000-80,000 people out of hundreds of millions who are willing to pay those ridiculous prices and you're good to go.

It doesn't matter if 99.999% of people think it's ridiculous as long as you got those 40,000-80,000.

I don't think it's a wealth gap. Those people that were interviewed in that clip didn't exactly look like they were wealthy.
Yeah, some of those people looked like the average Joe Schmoe who earns under $100K per year.
