Meh, it was a symbiotic relationship.Tom Brady made Bill Belichick, kinda sad to see how true that fact is.
That's been my belief all along. And not just with Belichick/Brady.Meh, it was a symbiotic relationship.
Belichick is one of the greatest defensive minds in NFL history, and the Patriots still have a really solid defense this year, but Brady was the piece that brought it all together for him. Without Brady he probably would've had a career arc similar to someone like Quinn, a legendary DC but only an above average to good HC.
On the other hand, if Brady had went to a team without a strong defense and a clear concept of how to protect him in his early years he likely would've flamed out of the league. Belichick's style and overall view of the game helped insulate him and allowed him space to grow his confidence to become what he eventually became.
If Brady had went to the Cowboys in 2000 he probably would've peaked as an above average starting QB at best, and career backup at worst.
dont look now, but it sure looks like Payton is resurrecting what appeared to be a broken Russell Wilson. And along with that the Broncos fortunes. What would Tony Romo and Dak Prescott have done if they had somebody like Sean Payton or Mike McCarthy (or Bill Walsh) instead of Jason Garrett?
Don Shula and Tom Landry are underrated in this regard with both coaches having deep playoff success with so many different QBs and team cores. That's been my belief all along. And not just with Belichick/Brady.
Would Joe Montana have been JOE F'N MONTANA without Bill Walsh? Would Jerry Rice have been what he was without Walsh and Montana? I'm sure they would have still been very good players in another situation, but there is something to be said for who you are playing with and are coached by along with their system.
To place it closer to home... What would Tony Romo and Dak Prescott have done if they had somebody like Sean Payton or Mike McCarthy (or Bill Walsh) instead of Jason Garrett? We're getting a small peek at the Prescott/McCarthy combo, and so far it's looking pretty damn good.
On the flip side, would Troy Aikman have been what he was under Rich Kotite?
Good. I don’t want other teams winning SBs in our stadiumThat fucking ice storm really screwed Jerry.

I don't believe that at all.Tom Brady made Bill Belichick, kinda sad to see how true that fact is.
It’s more Bellichicks lack of success without Brady coupled with Brady’s post NE career that has people dumping on Belichick. He’s getting fired for it, right or wrong.I don't believe that at all.
I think it was the perfect marriage in that you had the best quarterback in football and the best HC in football.
Some of those gameplans from Belichick were just masterful.
It's even more impressive when you consider that none of those OCs under his staff ever turned out to be anything special after they left the Patriots and at no point from 2010 onward did I think the Patriots had a top 4 roster in football.
I know that Tom Brady's continued success with the Buccaneers has led to people foolishly diminishing Bill Belichick as a coach, but I think they're wrong.
It was the combination of both of them being generational talents that led to them having a run that we'll never see in NFL football again.
Brady also left when New England wasn't very talented and Belichick was getting up there in years. It’s more Bellichicks lack of success without Brady coupled with Brady’s post NE career that has people dumping on Belichick. He’s getting fired for it, right or wrong.
Same with Garrapolo, right?Brady also left when New England wasn't very talented and Belichick was getting up there in years.
I just think his decline was a matter of coincidental timing.
Let's not forget a younger Belichick got 11 wins out of a Matt Cassell-led Pats team and got so many wins over the years with backup QBs that weren't very good.
Exactly.Same with Garrapolo, right?
Mac Jones was part of the undoing.Exactly.
He got wins out of all their backups and often times against good teams to boot.
