Told you fuckers Mayer was going to be a very strong contender if he's available.

Slater doesn't know shit about shit (Wendell Wright lol) but for whatever reason (let your minds run wild) she has decent sources on our draft thinking once we get down to the last week or so.

There is basically zero risk to floating those names as possibilities. It is not unlike how the picture is being painted.

Yes but she also tipped people off to Tyler Smith around this time last year.

Mayer, Bijan and Wright all chalk options obviously but it's probably the reality, along with another name or two like McDonald.

Hell Kiper had Tyler Smith. He is always wrong about Dallas.

Yeah I feel like I remember her saying some off the mark stuff on Zeke not very long ago. Essentially that we were keeping him and sort of made him sound like a top player. So my hope is that whatever source she talked to last year on Tyler Smith has dried up. But yeah, I do think she talks to people in the organization or at least hits people up. I know she has mentioned it before that she calls a number of sources with the organization and continually sort of prods them for information.

Wright and Bijan are sort of no brainers. Wright is a RT who projects excellently to guard and is probably a top 20 caliber player in this draft. Bijan most of us have known would be a pick of ours if he makes it to 26. That's sort of an obvious one with this organization. I don't really expect either of those guys to make it to 26.

I'm just hoping she is wrong on Mayer. Or that it's sort of her trying to sound informed while copying what like 90% of the mocks are saying right now. Nothing against Mayer, I just think you can do better. I wouldn't have him in my top 26 picks. I'd probably have him somewhere as a solid second rounder if I'm being totally honest.

We'll see but Mayer is basically the prototype of what we want at TE, which is an old school throwback inline TE who can block while also being a threat in the passing game.

We can debate the wisdom of that all we want but it's a fact.

Is there a Dallas Goedert facsimile in this draft?

I'm just hoping his short arms are a turn off. Lord knows we don't like short arms. Plus I thought we were into the whole SPARQ score thing. His score was pretty mediocre. But yeah, playing style, Jerry is going to see a young Jason Witten I'm sure. And frankly it wasn't that long ago that Witten was in Dallas so I'm sure a number of scouts and other guys will see and hope for that too.

Tucker Kraft probably? Maybe it's the whole Dakota thing though.

Very similar size though. Honestly, if there weren't the top TE's in this draft I think Kraft may be viewed more as a late first early second type prospect.

Similar to him. Analysts say Mayer's comp is Ertz, not Goedert.
Mayer is a lot better blocker and more complete TE than Ertz. It sounds terrible to invoke a probable HOFer, but Mayer is more like a Witten. An Ertz comp is more like Kincaid.

Yeah except Witten was significantly bigger and had longer arms. He also ran better... Mayer's college production was great though.

I feel like I'm being over critical of Mayer though. Probably just because I don't want him in the first round. I don't really mean to be. I think he is actually an excellent blocker and looked bigger than he measured in at. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually played at 260. He is actually fun to watch what he did in college. His lack of athleticism and overall length just sort of bothers me. Especially when I think there are lot of just better athletes at TE in this draft.

Yep and I think the arm length thing is much more important on defense and the OL, I don't think it's quite as much of a consideration for us in terms of skill position players.

It's a huge point of emphasis for Quinn, and probably OL to a lesser extent, but I don't think it matters a whole bunch in terms of RB's, WR's and TE's, or of course QB's.
