I don't want to poo poo a guy who did what you want him to do. He completed the open throws. But man Hurts had it easy. Guys just wide open, no pressure and simple manufactured reads. I have no idea what the Vikes were doing schematically, it was awful.
Hurts kind of reminded me of 2016 Dak last night with an OL giving him 4+ seconds to throw with massive windows to throw into with WR's running wide open. He made a couple of nice tight window throws but for the most part guys were open in acres of space.
In 2016 that was mostly because we had the best running game in the league, last night I think it was more about the Vikings defense being putrid, not ready to play and refusing to adjust.
We'll see how the rest of the year goes but Hurts does look improved, their OL is really good and they have a cohesive offensive design that gives defenses lots to consider.
I think they're about equal to us when Dak is healthy but with him up in the air they're the clear favorites for the division.
But like I said, their roster is in an interesting stage similar to the Chargers where they can afford to go wild in FA and spend a bunch of money on the rest of the roster because the QB is making $2M/year. Of course that then makes the QB look better than they are, or better than they will be if/when the team decides to pay them $40M/year.
With Herbert that isn't a concern because he's clearly a rare talent so you're fine paying him whatever, but with Hurts he's clearly not that. So they can enjoy their expensive roster this year and next but are they going to start over at QB if they make the playoffs 2-3 years in a row or are they going to pay Hurts 40+/year knowing that they could be screwing themselves because he's been propped up by a bunch of expensive FA's all across the roster?
It's a story that plays itself out over and over, the difference is that a team like the Chargers are probably a legit SB contender during this window while the Eagles are more just paper tigers similar to what we were last year.
