Who said, in the past, that some prospect was too tall for Guard? Well, Tyler Smith is tall.

Why? Players bust every year after they've been ranked higher than others at the same position.

All that means is the evaluation was wrong. And it happens every year. To everybody.
Because they seemingly had him ranked above guys like Green/Zion as well as Johnson, turned down trade offers that were on the table, and Smith's success or lack thereof depends more on the ability of the coaches to develop his technique than your average 1st rounder.

So to me that'd be an indictment on the scouts/McClay for ranking him so high, as well as the coaches for not being able to develop his technique/discipline.

24. Cowboys: Tyler Smith, OT, Tulsa
Grade: A

This is one of my favorite picks in this draft. This kid is a mauler who will help them at right tackle right away. He needs a little help in pass protection, but the Cowboys will coach him up. Teams loved him more than analysts and his tape showed you why. This is a really good pick.

The Fan/DC.com guys were suggesting that Steve smiling a couple minutes before the pick was Jerry basically getting the Titans to admit to him they wanted Smith. Said Jerry is really good at getting teams to tell him that.

Could be complete BS, who knows.
The titans wanted him but didn’t take him 6 picks earlier and didn’t trade up to get him sounds flaky at best.

Again. It happens every year. Nobody's scouting is perfect or we would not have busts.

Welp, like it or not we just got our starting LG. So who you all eyeing in the second round? My guess is we go WR there. With DE being a wild card. I think the Cowboys are need drafting this thing and it's going to go round 2 WR, round 3 DE, round 4 TE.

With that being said my WR's are Pickens and then Watson. IF either of those guys make it to our pick I'd run up to the podium. I'm not a Skyy Moore guy. And I'd probably have Jalen Tolbert as my third WR. Again if it's not one of those guys I'd go a different direction than WR. But much like our first round pick, I think the Cowboys are going to be dead set on a WR.
I think they will be more open to BPA in the second. They “fixed” WR by bringing in Washington….
Leo Chenal is still my wish pick.
Wouldn’t Be upset with several DL, LB, or Pickens

Yeah plus you had what, 4 trades of first round picks for WR's this year? It's definitely a position on the rise. But it could fall just as fast if those moves don't prove useful. The NFL is like that in some ways.

I like Chenal but I doubt we go LBer. Pickens is my dream pick. Watson might be a close second. After those two I could give you a long list of guys I'd really like in the second round.

Those were also from the 2020 season, his first year starting. I'm in the middle of working through a few of his 2021 games, will report back.
Plus look how screwed up the 2020 season was from Covid. So this kid is, what, 18 years old, can't have normal spring ball or workouts, and Sturm is going to judge him on that? Doesn't seem like a very balanced view, to be kind.
