Jerry Jones and the Cowboys rarely operate within the framework of meritocracy. So I don't expect Bland to get playing time over 2nd and 3rd round draft picks.

This and the Basham roughing the passer play fall into the category of calls made purely off a teams reputation.
Don't know if it was mentioned, but DiNucci is gonna take Cooper's job. If Dak plays any next week, I'd like to see DiNucci get the snaps when Dak is done. Cooper is what he is.
But, the coach can definitely fix the refs by... doing stuff. And stuff. This and the Basham roughing the passer play fall into the category of calls made purely off a teams reputation.
NE Patriots players could make those exact same plays and this same officiating crew wouldn't throw a flag on those plays.
It's BS. But it is what it is.
I would rather see Grier if he can go.Don't know if it was mentioned, but DiNucci is gonna take Cooper's job. If Dak plays any next week, I'd like to see DiNucci get the snaps when Dak is done. Cooper is what he is.
It's especially irritating when big plays are negated over minor infractions that have absolutely no impact on the play. It's one of the great things about college football -- there aren't nearly as many flags. Not even close.
Nobody wants to see the zebras on their screens 25 times a game. Nobody wants to have to hold their breath after every big play. It's such a turnoff and totally unnecessary.
Pretty much exactly what I've been saying.
I've been seeing a lot of this over the last few years, and not just with QBs. Refs are throwing flags on perfectly legal hits just because the hit looks too violent.Jesus didn't see a replay last night but that's awful. Nothing else he could have been done. Played it exactly the way the NFL wants players to. I hate it because that's what I want Williams to do. And now it really fucks with a player and he has no idea how he is supposed to play that.
You say learn from the penalties but what do you do there. You don't go high, you don't go low, you don't fall on the QB. And you aren't late with the hit. So how does our young pass rusher learn from that? Um hey, just slow down and let the QB throw the ball.
We didn't lead the league in penalties in 2020.

I mean Williams could have destroyed the QB on this but he actually did a good job of not doing it which should have prevented a penalty.I've been seeing a lot of this over the last few years, and not just with QBs. Yep, I was leery that his playing AAC competition, ie the Temples of the world may have skewed his actual power to be something it wasn't.On Tyler Smith, the focus of course is going to be on the 2 penalties because that fits the neat narrative about him right now, but I feel pretty good about what I saw.
The athleticism and movement ability for his size is obvious and all that's really missing is refined technique to unlock all of his natural ability. I guess there's a scenario where he never puts it all together and only ends up an average player but I don't think that's the most likely scenario.
From what I can tell his biggest issue aside from generally not playing with consistent technique is his desire to move guys against their will on every snap. He hasn't learned yet that he doesn't need to keep trying to bury guys every time, that sometimes just being in the way is enough to make a play successful.
He wants to drive opponents to the ground every chance he gets and sometimes that will draw flags in borderline situations, i.e. his first holding penalty.
All I know is, the guy has Pro Bowl talent and it's just a matter of getting him to play with better technique/awareness. There's no excuse to even consider starting McGovern (who got knocked around a good bit tonight) just because you're afraid of mental mistakes/penalties from Smith.
These coaches get paid millions to coach, so coach the guy with the sky high ceiling instead of starting a guy who doesn't have it.

Apologies if you are a Temple alum man, my bad.

What is wrong with you? The Nooch is the anti-christ and must be off this roster.Don't know if it was mentioned, but DiNucci is gonna take Cooper's job. If Dak plays any next week, I'd like to see DiNucci get the snaps when Dak is done. Cooper is what he is.
