You know, you see teams like the Ravens that play to win exhibitions?

Us?

We pride ourselves in not scoring on offense in the preseason.
Well the biggest issue is that we never have shit at backup QB.

Not certain if I should be encouraged or frightened.

Overall impressions:

  • Players that need to GTFO but won't: Josh Ball and Nashon Wright.
  • It really sucked that Grier got hurt and could not participate. Rush looked like the old one, that Minny game was a damn illusion.
  • Bland is good. Joseph worries me.
  • Sam Williams was just meh. Flashed a little bit, but he certainly did not make his presence felt.
  • Aviante Collins did pretty damn good at RT. The Center thing might still be a deal, I saw Biadasz playing a lot, then Farnoik came in with little to no drop off.
  • Markquese Bell looked like a little Kearse running around out there.
  • Ridgeway was tough for gutting it out, but his body language was horrible. He needs to be ass kicker, not a fat baby.
  • They used both Malik Jefferson and Storey Jackson a lot. Neither one did anything special and both should go. Maybe one sticks around on the PS.
  • Fowler made some noise, but he was part of the penalty problem too. He is a vet and should know better.
  • Gholston is going to be on the final roster, but shouldn't. This DT thing isn't working out so well.
  • Trysten Hill played a lot and just did his usual flopping around.
  • I certainly hope they are still looking for kickers.
  • The chant in the media is that Malik Davis was a winner, but The Shamp outplayed him.
  • None of the WRs stood out, but then again the QB play was pretty bad.
  • We need to find a way to stash Alec Lindstrom.

Read through the rest of the thread. One point I want to make. A head coach can not fix a ref's mistakes/bias. If we are having penalties called on us that aren't penalties, the HC can't fix that outside of appealing to the league for games to be called more fairly.

Oh, and if Dak gets hurt and Grier can't come back for whatever reason, we are fucked.

That is so awful. Saw a play where our DT was in the back field and the Broncos lineman was bear hugging him from behind. Nothing. I just don't understand how holding works apparently.

Yeah I mean what do you exactly tell the players to do? I guess the coach needs to say sweet things into the refs ears. Schmooz them a bit or something. I really have no idea but clearly we are doing something wrong outside of the games. I can't imagine the refs wanted to influence a preseason game that badly. So why the extreme bias?

Is it a perception thing? Like we have a reputation for dirty play so the refs see it when it's not there? I honestly just don't know. But I can't do another regular season of this.

It's the most ambiguous, subjective penalty in the game that could be called on any play, so it's weaponized against us.

It's no coincidence that holding was the refs penalty of choice against us all last year.

It's ridiculous to claim those penalties are the coaches or players fault. Do you tell your players to never hit the QB? Or to not block someone?

Smith's technique is sloppy here with high pads and high hands, getting him in a position where he's belly to belly and making it more likely that a flag is thrown as the DL tries to move one way or the other.

I don't personally think it's a flag, it's extremely borderline and I've seen way worse ignored, but there is room to clean up his technique so he isn't getting himself into compromising positions like that.
