Once again the officiating was horrid. So many holds not called on both sides.
But my pet peeve is the ticky tack PI calls. The play yesterday was a prime example-that was a great play and a subsequent INT wiped away.
The refs have become ultra sensitive on these calls, and it really can cost a team a game. They should have left the replay official in place for those calls.
That DPI just damn near cost us the game yesterday.

Sometime during the offseason I posted a few videos of him from college showing advanced hand use/pass rush technique (for a LB) where you see him effectively using rip and swim moves, even sometimes in conjunction with a chop or club.

That's advanced technique/pass rush plan that a good amount of pure DE's don't have coming into the league. To see him already using these moves, sometimes a series of them, in his 2nd NFL game is quite literally preposterous.

That's what Baldinger was talking about when he said "where did he learn this stuff?", because there are guys who take 2-3 years in the league before they're seamlessly stringing moves together like that.
he's a freak on a leash.

Hi Rob Phillips, it's called preserving your only edge rusher and not wearing him out so he has the juice to get after a very good (and very mobile) QB, maybe one day you'll learn football after covering it for like 20 years.

that can't be a good grade? I did season my crow upon eating.
I have to re-watch the game and focus on Steele but I saw several times where he was 1 on 1 with Bosa with no help and held his own, he wasn't getting help every snap. There were also several times where he just straight up rooted Bosa out 1 on 1 in the run game on a Reach block, so there's that also.

I honestly don't think Collins would've done any better against Bosa, which is literally shocking to me.

Collins is really good at RT. But if we get this play out of Steele for these 5 games I'm not concerned at all.

Yeah you kind of need to keep the guy rested when he is rushing the passer against 320 pound lineman.

With that being said, imagine his impact had he played more snaps?

Yea and imagine his impact once Gregory and/or Lawrence are back.

Look at Jaylon on this play. I told you all he isn't dragging himself out of this hole. He is still awful.
It's unreal how often he isn't blocked out of plays but instead takes himself out of position.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in a meeting where the guy explains his thinking on any given play like that.

This one pissed me off. It should have been our ball. This absolutely was not DPI. They ended up scoring a TD because of this shitty call.
Not only is it not PI, but even if there was some contact, referees have generally allowed more leeway in regards to aggressive contact if the defender makes a play on the ball and gets a pick.

That was a brutally bad call and I think if the interception stands, we win that game by 10 points.

At the 2 minute warning, no less.

This was about as idiotic a call as you'll see from a coach and it screams a lack of situational awareness.

What are the odds of actually connecting on a punt block? I would venture to say about the same as recovering an onside kick?

So to attempt that there after the defense had come up with a really big stop and practically ensured we'd take the lead and the momentum into the half is just inexcusably stupid.

I'm really getting tired of Fassel's blunders.

More proof that these "grades" are pretty much useless. Steele had a very nice game. Joey Bosa was a non-factor the entire game, which should tell us all we need to know. So much for all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth going on all week leading up to this game, along with this one matchup being the guarantee we would lose this game.
