The only real head scratcher to me was Amari Cooper, and giving him away for peanuts. As for Collins, I don't really know why the team soured on him, but he has been declining and showing subpar effort and attitude as of late. And I think the team was/is comfortable with Steele taking over for him. At the very least, in the short term anyway. So I don't agree with the 'no replacements' thing with him.
You look at Hollywood Brown being moved for a first and it should sting.

Hollywood Brown wasn’t being paid $20+ million a season. For whatever reason, teams are perfectly fine with giving high draft compensation for a player who isn’t on a big contract and then giving him a large contract rather than giving up high draft compensation for a guy already on a large contract.

Whatever. I've calmed down a bit but why does this team do the dumbest god damn things? It gets infatuated with its own needs because it doesn't do jack shit in free agency. It fixates on certain players for scheme fit and excludes far too many others. It penny pinches and drafts for cap savings.

It's trying to merely steer the ship. It's not trying hard enough to actually build a contender.

This selection is such clear evidence of that. Even if he ends up good he was a reach for need.
He was a reach by the publications, but not according to the rest of the league, and honestly it doesn't bother me considering he was the next OT on the board and would not have been available had we traded down at all since Tennessee was going to trade up and take him.

Fred was exactly the same kind of reach, no difference except we have the benefit of hindsight.

What I need to know is why they (and half the league) ignored Johnson.

As far as free agency goes, I'd like to know who we should have signed this year. Not trying to be a jerk or argumentative, I really want to know

James Daniel’s and Austin Cole would have been good options if we were willing to pay for them.

there were a half dozen other players in our price range that would have been similar to our other FA signings (Saffold, Turner, Blythe)

not saying these would have been in play but they were available.

He was the best player left on our board and our last first rounder too. Every other team wanted him. Pinky swear.
I believe you guys. I'm just used to the Cowboys trotting out PR talking points to justify questionable picks.

Yeah replace is probably the wrong word. If he could hold the LT spot down the road with good play that is a homerun every day of the week in my opinion. I'd love if he was the next Tyron Smith but if he can be a good NFL LT that works too. I'm kind of wondering if Tyler Smith is our starting LG what we do when Tyron has his annual injury this upcoming season. Seems like a lot to shift a rookie between OT and Guard. Plus then you have the problem of LG. I'd still take another O-lineman in this draft. Someone probably on day three.
And dont forget about JBall. His ass will be front and center about now, if only to see what he’s got.

Who get's credit for fixing Steele? Or did that just happen on it's own.
TE coach since he is near to the TEs on occasion.

Well, considering Smith is a T and will be there eventually, this should work for him too then.

:fistpump

However Smith is not a former Red Raider. Its eaiser for Steele since we are destined to be HoF players.

The Cooper trade should have every Cowboys fan pissed. The Cowboys fumbled that one badly.

Feels like the Joneses just took the first offer that was thrown their way.

They just wanted to dump his salary and saw anything they got in return as a bonus.
