You missed the point but I guess we can't have everything.
I got your point but it's not valid. One, not everyone says the sports media is always wrong. And two, the my initial point is that most of the scouts/GM's in the league plus sports media and draft "experts" had him as a late 2nd/3rd rounder. So acting like I'm just clinging to the media which everyone always claims is wrong isn't the issue.

Frederick's agent on The Fan. Not really surprising, but he said "no chance" that he would have been there at 47

Feh. That's just standard agent talk. Trying to talk up his guy.
Listen, Doctor Downerpants, it's on the internet so it has to be true.

Now that I read it again, Doctor Downerpants sounds like a good thing.

Please expand on this, I see good physical specimens in major programs with a lot of hype and little onfield production.
Not only that but they both were college DE/DT tweeners who bounced around between the two positions. Big athletic 300 lb guys that just don't fly out of their stance very quickly. It's actually a perfect comparison except Spears at least got 6 sacks in a season.

"What is the very best thing we can do for this team?’’ owner Jerry Jones said in the near-midnight press conference following the Monday launching of the NFL Draft. “Buy (quarterback Tony) Romo a half-a-second.’’
This guy is so full of shit.

They ignored this approach for 2 seasons. If he believed a word of it, he never would have let the OL decay to the worst in football.

So the same scouts that you praise for having Floyd ranked 7th are the same ones who had Frederick ranked #21. We got him 10 picks later. Wouldn't that be a steal?
I generally agree with you on this Frederick thing but I think this is being a little disingenuous.

The Cowboys may have had Frederick as their 21st player, but they pull guys off their board. They only have 19 players in a first round that is actually 32 picks.

Frederick may have been one of their top second rounders, and thus they very well maybe did stick to their board when taking him at 31, but that doesn't really mean Frederick is the 21st best player in the draft.

Only Jerry and Stephen Jones could succeed is making me dislike a selection of a player I really like.

You have just as much proof we would've traded up for him in the 2nd as we have that he'd still be there at 47. None. Also many think Schwenke is just as good. Amazing how after all these years we still have so many fans desperately trying to justify Jerry's reaches.
I personally do not believe Schwenke is on the same level. I think Frederick is a clear cut better. Schwenke I see as a reach in the second, more like a solid third.

Frederick's a solid second. I think it's basically a toss-up that he's there at 47. I think moving down a few more spots to the mid-30s, and I wouldn't even have called it a reach.

Yeah, and people like me are always "trying to justify Jerry's moves."

What I'm not understanding is if they didn't view him as a quick twitch guy and had concerns about his low sack numbers, why the hell was he so high on their draft board in the first place.

This team is so dysfunctional it's scary.
True, that doesn't make any sense.

I think the scouts evaluated the player one way and Jerry made an interpretation as to his role in a Kiffin defense on his own.

Garrett himself was adament that he wanted the player. Jerry didn't see Floyd as Warren Sapp. That was it.

Hearing that MFer talking "quick twitch" like he knows what the frick he's talking about was infuriating.

Why let yourself get so upset over it? There's nothing we can do about that clown, except laugh and shake our head in disbelief. Yeah, I know his ego drives our team down. But I don't see the point in giving myself a bleeding ulcer over something we can't control.

What's to talk up? He's already been selected, and his contract is slotted. Job complete.
He was trying to justify why Frederick was taken in the 1st.

Frederick even said that he was surprised that he was taken in the 1st round.

I hashed this all out about 3 DCCs ago, but F it.

Floyd's a pure 4-3 DT. He played out of position his first two years in the hybrid 3-4 kicked outside. Beats linemen with his first step. Floyd's a penetrating DT that's capable of blowing up plays in the backfield. He's aggressive. Marcus Spears was never aggressive or a gap shooter as a prospect and was universally looked at as a 3-4 DE with his strength lying in the run game.

I don't know what kind of production you expect out of SEC DTs. Especially Florida this year, they ran the shit out of the ball and shortened games. The UF D probably saw the fewest passing attempts against them in the conference.

Geno Atkins didn't light QBs up every week and he might be the best pass rushing DT in the league. Fairley and Dareus did more than Floyd, but they were clear top prospects.

Floyd's total package is enough to justify a solid first round grade. Nothing more.
