If Fat Mike gets canned, he goes too. He has all the time Quinn gets. He has a relationship with McCarthy too, but he has a decision to make. Is being the DC of THE DALLAS COWBOYS that important to him?
Dcoordinators get canned all the time. If he goes to Washington and their defense isn't that good in year one, his head would be the first on the chopping block.

There is also a good chance that if we go nowhere next year but the defense is really good, that he'd still have a chance to stay while McCarthy walks. That's how the Cowboys roll.

Yeah not sure what that has to do with anything. In that instance Kiffin was just really old. I don't think he had the energy any longer to do the job. Even the best defensive coordinators have to work their ass off.

I think what he's saying is that it would be an unusual step for us to hire someone without HC experience like Whitt.

I disagree with that though because we had a bunch before kiffin, it's just how it's been lately. I don't think that's a Jerry philosophy or anything, just more coincidence.

I guess that would move Rivera and Zimmer to the front of the line. But I don't really see it as a limiting factor.

There's not much difference between Quinn, Rivera and Zimmer as DC's aside from the fact that Quinn has shown results as one more recently

Can throw Frazier and Staley in there too, although it's hard to tease out Frazier's influence vs. McDermott in Buffalo and of course Staley was only a DC for like two years.

Zimmer just doesn't seem like a DC Mike would want. MM had 34s in GB and I don't think Zim is multiple enough like MM said he wanted.

Plus I don't see why Zim would want it knowing it's probably just a one year gig.

I think there could be a scenario especially for Zimmer since he's known and respected in Dallas already, where if McCarthy is let go after the year they might look harder at Zimmer as his potential replacement if he's already in the building and under contract. Especially if the defense is good.

I don't think McCarthy has any real say over the defense, just look at the Nolan vs. Quinn situation. The only real logic was "hire a former HC that had success".

It's not bad logic, but I don't think McCarthy has some strong philosophy on defense aside from prioritizing turnovers. If anything I bet the battles they had in the NFC North over the years would make it a more likely marriage.

Hey even when the Poodle came back it was as a humble secondary coach.

I just remember when he first came in he said he wouldn't have a "one-call defense"... (a la Marinelli). Not that Zimmer is like that, but MM has had 34s or modified ones since GB.

Plus, Micah as a 43 DE?

I do like that Zim is a hard ass who DGAF, though.

Just seems kinda weird Whitt would rather go to a talentless defense.

If Whitt doesn’t like interview competition, screw him. He doesn’t have an exclusive on this gig. May the best candidate win.
