Unless they do something like change agents, it will matter.Agents only matter for the second contract, not the rookie one.
Yeah Musgrave is a hard no for me, but I hope someone else thinks really highly of him. He didn't stand out at all at the Senior Bowl to me. Honestly Durham looked like a better TE at the Senior Bowl. And please go look at the rankings and see where he should be drafted. Throw on the fact that Musgrave is an injury guy. The fact that Musgrave was backing up less talented TE's in college. I just don't see it. Someone is going to outsmart themselves and take that guy, but of all the TE's I think he is the most likely to be a complete bust. But hey maybe I'm wrong.I'm among the many who thought Musgrave looked sort of ordinary, for whatever reason.
I was impressed with LaPorta. He's sneaky smooth and athletic.
I mean I think we will take a TE. I'm just not convinced it needs to be in the first round. And I have no problem taking a TE. You use 2 to 3 TE's on offense. And if Hendershot or Ferguson isn't everything you think they can be you have a backup option. Plus this draft is a great TE class. One of the best I can remember in recent history, why not snag a guy? Maybe it's a Brayden Willis on day 3? Or a Latu in round 5. Doesn't have to be a high round guy. Just wait for the value at the position and snag a guy. Maybe it's even a Will Mallory or Durham.I am seriously hoping all of the TE talk is smokescreen/ media nonsense. There is a good chance they will take one and there are plenty that are decent but I don’t think they fully know what they have in Ferg/Hendershot. Give them a year or bring in a low draft pick. I’d rather see the draft capital spent on OL or DL.
Part of it is that it's a weak class overall but part of it is that there's lots of high floor guys who you can reasonably project as starters. I don't think anybody would argue that there are 2-3 HOF caliber TE's in this class, you just have a bunch of guys who are probable starters down into the 3rd round even, which is obviously unusual.Watch all of us get sucked by all this TE talk and they don't take one, reminding us after the draft how much they like their guys.
The chatter has been so loud that you almost expect it and the fun part would be to grade which one they get.
I realize people are talking up the depth of this class, but when you have a guy like Meyer at the top of them all, is it that great?
Yeah I can't really put my finger on a good comp for Mayer. He isn't massive like a Gronk, he isn't overly athletic like most of the current elite NFL TEs. That sort of leads you to Witten but Witten was bigger and had more straight line speed to start his career. Mayer just may be his own man. I'm not sure. For some reason Mayer reminds be a little of Heath Miller. I remember that draft where he was considered a good prospect but wasn't flashy, only ran a 4.8 or whatever, kind of just a big, old-school all-around TE, and so he fell to the GD Steelers in the late 20s or whatever and was a very good, valuable player for them for a long time. There are a lot of subtleties to that position.
Hockenson is a solid comparison and while he was overdrafted, you take a guy like that at the end of the first 7 days a week.Yeah I can't really put my finger on a good comp for Mayer. Yeah although Hockenson looked more athletic at accelerating. Which sort of shows in the 10 yard split, verticle and broad jump. Mayer just isn't as athletic.Hockenson is a solid comparison and while he was overdrafted, you take a guy like that at the end of the first 7 days a week.
Ertz is probably a decent comparison also although Mayer is a better blocker.
I think with how things worked out with Hockenson, that might not be the best comparison.Part of it is that it's a weak class overall but part of it is that there's lots of high floor guys who you can reasonably project as starters. And Mayer is a very legit prospect, I think he's equal to Hockenson who went top 10. That was a bit of a reach to begin with, prospects like that should go somewhere in the middle of the round in my opinion, but that's still really good value if we're talking 26th overall.
He was drafted at 30 in 2005.For some reason Mayer reminds be a little of Heath Miller. I remember that draft where he was considered a good prospect but wasn't flashy, only ran a 4.8 or whatever, kind of just a big, old-school all-around TE, and so he fell to the GD Steelers in the late 20s or whatever and was a very good, valuable player for them for a long time. He's still been a really good TE, made 2 Pro Bowls, Detroit just didn't want to pay him.I think with how things worked out with Hockenson, that might not be the best comparison.
Mayer is a solid prospect. But he provides no more of an explosive dimension than Ferguson could produce if deployed correctly.
If I am taking a TE at 26, I want a monster of some kind. If not, get another guy.
In terms of satisfaction with Mayer at our first, it would be a soft on.
Like did Stroud just not understand it? I mean this will put this thing to the test.
Haener, Hall and Tune are all guys I like on day 3.
I high one sits the longest? Mauch or Eongo would be my bet.
